Custom printed pens are ballpoint, gel or rollerball pens with your logo, name or message imprinted on the barrel, and TBPB makes them with no minimum order. Bring a written quote for the same specs from anyone else and our price-beat guarantee means we beat it.
How a logo actually gets onto a pen
Three imprint methods cover most orders. Pad printing transfers ink from an etched plate onto the barrel with a soft silicone pad, which is why it copes so well with round, tapered surfaces; it normally prints one colour per pass. Screen printing works on straighter barrels and gives a heavier ink layer. Laser engraving burns through the coating on a metal pen and leaves a single-tone mark that never rubs off, but it cannot give you colour. If your logo has a gradient or a photo in it, say so early, because that changes which method makes sense.
The imprint area is smaller than you think
A pen barrel gives you a narrow band, often well under an inch tall. A short wordmark and a phone number read fine. A tagline plus a web address plus an icon turns into a smudge of tiny type. Light ink on a dark barrel, or the reverse, keeps contrast high; mid-tone on mid-tone disappears. Send your logo as vector artwork and we will tell you honestly whether it will hold up at pen scale before anything is printed.
Ink, refill and mechanism
Ballpoint ink is oil-based, dries almost instantly and suits the receipt-signing, form-filling pen that lives next to a till. Gel and rollerball ink gives a darker, smoother line but can smear on glossy paper. Click pens are quicker to use one-handed, twist pens avoid a pocket-snagging clip. If the pen will be handed to hundreds of strangers, a plain click ballpoint is the safe pick.
Presenting the pen
A loose pen thrown in a bag rattles and arrives scuffed. A printed card or sleeve fixes that cheaply, and a printed header card lets a pen hang on a peg in a shop. For an executive or client gift, a rigid-style presentation box around the pen is what makes it feel like a gift, and our corporate gift boxes are built for that. Browse the rest of the custom retail packaging range if the pen is part of a bigger kit.
When a pen is the wrong giveaway
If the message needs more than a name and a number, a pen will not carry it. A printed card, a tag or a small box with room for a story does that job better, and the pen can ride inside it.
Colour matching is worth a word too. If your brand uses a specific Pantone shade, tell us when you ask for the quote, because a barrel colour and an ink colour that look right on screen can clash once the ink sits on plastic or metal. We would rather flag that before printing than after a few thousand pens are done.
- Imprint: pad print, screen print or laser engraving, depending on the barrel
- Ink: ballpoint, gel or rollerball
- Mechanism: click or twist
- Presentation: loose, sleeved, carded or boxed
- Quantity: no minimum order, one pen or thousands
Next step: send the pen style you have in mind, your logo and the quantity, even if it is just one, and TBPB will confirm the imprint method and quote it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order for custom printed pens?
No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order a single pen to check the imprint or a large run for an event. Quantity changes the quote, not whether we will take the job.
Which printing method is best for a pen logo?
Pad printing is the usual choice because it handles curved barrels well. Laser engraving suits metal pens when a single-tone, permanent mark is enough. Screen printing works on straighter barrels. Send your artwork and we will recommend one.
What file format should my logo be in?
Vector artwork such as AI, EPS or a vector PDF is best, because the logo gets shrunk to a very small area. A high-resolution PNG can work for simple marks, but fine detail may be lost at barrel size.
How many colours can I print on a pen?
Pad printing normally prints one colour per pass, so multi-colour logos need extra passes or a simplified version. Laser engraving is one tone only. Tell us your brand colours and we will say what is realistic.
Can the pens come in a gift box or sleeve?
Yes. TBPB makes printed sleeves, cards and gift boxes, so the pen can be packaged to match your brand. That is a good idea for client gifts, where the presentation matters as much as the pen.
Can you beat a quote I already have?
Send us the written quote with the same specs and we will beat it. That is the price-beat guarantee, and it applies to custom printed pens like everything else we make.
