Custom Gable Boxes, No Minimum Order

A gable box is a folding carton with a sloped, roof-shaped top that closes with tabs and forms a built-in carry handle. TBPB makes them custom to your size with no minimum order, and if you bring a written quote for the same specs, we will beat it.

How a gable box is built

The box ships flat with the side seam glued. You fold the base, snap the two long panels together at the top and tuck a locking tab, and the roof panels meet in a peak that you can grab. Because the handle is part of the lid, there is no separate cord or plastic grip to source, and the closed box stays shut when carried. The slope also sheds a little light pressure, so the lid is less likely to dent under a hand than a flat lid is.

What gable boxes suit, and what they do not

They are a natural fit for party favors, small bakery items, cookies, candy, gift sets and kids’ meal packs, anywhere someone carries the box by the top. They are a poor choice for liquid, very heavy items or anything that should be stacked in a pile on a shelf, since the peaked lid does not stack flat. If you want a stacking retail carton, a tuck top box is the straighter choice. For sold-by-the-dozen sweets that need to be seen, add a window.

Sizing and board

Measure the contents, including any wrapping, then add clearance of about an eighth of an inch per side so the items go in without catching. Remember that the peaked top adds height, so the box needs room above the contents for the roof panels to close properly. Folding carton paperboard in the 16 to 24 pt range is typical, and the handle is only as strong as the board and the tab around it, so tell us how heavy the box will be when it is full. Kraft board suits a natural look, while white-coated board holds full color best.

Before you order, test a mock-up. Ask for a plain sample, load it with the real product and carry it across a room. If the contents shift or the peak flexes, tell us and we adjust the board, the tab or the interior size before anything is printed.

Print and finishing

We print CMYK or Pantone match, with matte or gloss coating, soft-touch lamination, foil stamping or spot UV on the logo. A window cut-out in a side panel shows the product. For food items, the interior should be coated or lined appropriately, but whether any board or coating is suitable for direct food contact is something to confirm with your own regulatory adviser.
