Pale blues can wash out on kraft board, while deep navy on kraft looks sharp. White paperboard gives the truest blue and is the safer choice when the shade matters.
Large flat areas of dark ink show scuffs. A matte aqueous coating or soft-touch lamination protects against fingerprints and rubbing at the folds, and soft-touch gives a deep, velvety navy that photographs well. Where the board bends, dark ink can crack slightly, so a coating is worth adding to heavily covered boxes.
Size, handle and weight
Measure what goes inside, add about 1/8 inch per side, and allow for the sloped roof that eats into interior height. The handle is cut from the same board as the walls, so these boxes suit light to moderate loads: favors, chocolates, a candle, a small gift set. For a dense or heavy item, ask about a thicker stock or consider a sturdier style. Send us the item and we will check the proportions before drawing the dieline.
One layout note before you send artwork. The handle sits on the ridge, so a design wrapped around the whole box gets interrupted there. Many blue boxes work best with a flat colour field, a single logo on the front wall and a small line of text on the side. Busy patterns can look great, but they need the fold lines marked so the pattern meets cleanly at the corners.
