When a fold and assemble box is the right call
Storage is the usual reason. Flat blanks stack in a fraction of the space a glued box takes, which matters if you hold stock for a season or ship kits to a fulfillment partner who assembles on site. Assembly is the trade off. Someone folds each box, so a high volume day and a slow line do not mix well. For a few dozen to a few hundred units a shift it is comfortable. Above that, a glued or auto bottom style usually pays for itself in labor.
Styles that fold flat
Several structures ship flat and assemble by hand. A reverse tuck end folds from a single blank with tucks at both ends and suits light retail goods. A snap lock bottom locks under the load and carries weight without tape. A four corner tray folds up from a flat sheet and takes a lid or a sleeve over the top. A crash lock base arrives glued at the bottom and pops open in one motion, which is the fastest of the group if you are packing at speed.
Board and finish
Folding carton board handles light retail weight and takes print cleanly. Kraft gives an uncoated natural face. E flute corrugated adds crush resistance while still folding flat, which suits anything with weight or a fragile edge. Print full color, one color, or leave the board plain. Matte and gloss lamination, soft touch, spot UV and foil are all available on the printed face.
Getting the size right
Measure the product, not the old box. Length, width and depth are taken as internal dimensions so the product sits without rattling and without being forced.
