The Best Price Boxes makes custom multi-depth boxes with no minimum order, and we beat any written quote for the same specs. A multi-depth box is a corrugated carton with extra score lines on its walls, so one box size can be folded down to two or three different heights and still close tight around what is inside.

The problem multi-depth boxes solve

Shipping a half-empty box is a quiet cost. Void fill goes up, the box takes more space on a truck, and carriers that bill by dimensional weight charge you for air. If you sell products in several heights, say a one-bottle, two-bottle and three-bottle order, stocking a separate box for each is its own headache.

A multi-depth box lets you stock one or two sizes. The pre-scored lines let the packer cut or fold the walls down to the height that matches the order. Tighter box, less filler, fewer SKUs on the shelf.

How the scoring works

Scores are creases pressed into the corrugated board where it will fold. On a multi-depth box the walls carry more than one set of creases, each at a different height. The packer folds on the line that matches the load and the flaps close at that height. The board and flute matter here, because a thin or poorly scored wall cracks instead of folding clean. Our corrugated cardboard guide covers the flute types.

When to choose multi-depth and when not to

It works for variable orders, kits, subscription boxes that change contents, and any catalog where height varies and length and width do not. Books, bottle sets and apparel folds are common cases.

It does not help when your products differ in footprint, only in height, or when the product is fragile enough that you want a snug, purpose-built structure. A fixed-size mailer box gives a cleaner unboxing, and a single-size carton is cheaper to design if every order is the same. We will say so if we think multi-depth is not your best option.

How to measure for a multi-depth box

Fix the footprint first: the length and width of your largest common item plus clearance. Then list the shortest and tallest heights you need to cover and any heights in between that you ship often. Send the three numbers and your unit weights. We lay out the score positions so each depth closes flat, and show them on the dieline before anything is cut.

How to order

Send your footprint, depth range and quantity through the quote form. Ordering one box to test the folds is fine. If you hold a written quote for the same specs from another supplier, attach it and we will beat it. Free design help and free samples are part of how we work. More options are in our corrugated boxes.

Questions buyers ask

Is there a minimum order for multi-depth boxes?

No. We make custom multi-depth boxes with no minimum order, so you can order a single carton and test every fold line with real product first.

How many depths can one box have?

A box can carry two or more fold lines. The practical limit depends on the board thickness and how tall the wall is. Send your height range and we will tell you how many scores fit cleanly.

Does a multi-depth box save on shipping?

Often, yes, because a box cut down to the product height uses less void fill and takes less space. Savings depend on your carrier and how much your order heights vary, so check with your own shipping data.

Can I print on a multi-depth box?

Yes, plain kraft and printed versions are available. Folding to a lower depth hides part of the wall, so keep key artwork away from the score lines. We check placement on the proof.
