Window boxes and showing the product
Toys sell on sight, so most toy packaging has a window. A PET or PVC window film is fitted behind a die cut opening so the product is visible and still protected. Where the toy has a strong silhouette, an open front with a printed backer can work and costs less than film. Where the product is small or has loose parts, a fully closed box with strong product photography on the face is safer and cheaper to ship.
Holding the toy in place
Nothing devalues a toy faster than opening the box and finding it slumped in a corner. A corrugated or paperboard insert holds the product square to the window. Blister trays and vacuum formed inserts suit smaller items and sets with several pieces. If the toy has parts a child assembles, the insert should hold them in the order they are used.
Information the pack has to carry
Toy packaging usually needs to display age grading, any required safety marks, the manufacturer and importer details, a barcode and any warnings that apply to the product. Layout matters here because the required copy competes with the artwork for the same faces. We will lay the panels out so the mandatory information is legible and the front of the pack still sells. Sizing and shipping
Give us the toy dimensions assembled and boxed, the weight, and whether it ships to a retailer in a case or direct to a customer. A right sized box cuts the shipping cost on every unit and stops the product moving in transit, and if you are currently using a stock box you are almost certainly paying to ship air.
