Cigar Boxes

Custom cigar boxes are rigid presentation boxes made to hold cigars flat, upright or in a sampler layout, with a printed wrap, a lid style you choose and an insert cut to your cigar size. TBPB makes them with no minimum order, from a single sample to a full production run, and beats a written competitor quote.

Shipping and Turnaround

Standard production runs 7 to 14 business days, depending on the box style, print method, and finishing you choose, a simple kraft mailer moves faster than a box with foil stamping or spot UV. Need it sooner? We handle rush requests case by case, so email us your deadline before you place the order and we’ll tell you straight whether we can hit it.

Shipping is free on every order, in the United States and internationally. We ship with FedEx, UPS, USPS or DHL depending on your location and order size, and you’ll get a tracking number as soon as your order leaves our facility.

A custom cigar box is a rigid, paper-wrapped box cut to the exact length and ring gauge of your cigars, usually with a hinged lid and a fitted insert. TBPB makes them with no minimum order, so a boutique roller can order one sample, and we beat any written quote for the same specs.

What goes into a cigar box build

The structure is rigid chipboard, commonly in the 1.5 to 3 mm range, wrapped in printed paper. That is different from a folding carton, and it is the reason the box keeps its shape when it is stacked on a counter or tossed in a bag. Thick board also gives the walls room for a clean mitred corner, which is the first thing a cigar buyer inspects.

To be clear about what this is not: a wrapped chipboard box is a presentation and gift box. It is not a humidor and it does not regulate humidity. If you need to hold cigars in condition for weeks, the box goes inside a humidified bag or a proper humidor, and your box carries the brand. Plenty of brands use exactly that arrangement for gifting.

Choosing the lid and layout

A hinged lid is the classic cigar box silhouette and the format most customers ask for first. A slide-top or two-piece lid-and-base box is quieter and feels more like a gift. A magnetic closure suits a smaller sampler where a snap-shut lid matters; see our magnetic closure rigid boxes for how that closure is built. If the lid should rise straight up off the base with a lip around the neck, a shoulder neck box gives that slow, deliberate reveal.

Layout decides capacity. Cigars can lie flat in a single row, sit in two stacked layers, or stand upright in a small cabinet-style box. Count is up to you: a single-cigar presentation box, a four-pack, or a twenty-five count. The insert is cut to match.

Sizing your cigars properly

Cigar size is given as length in inches and ring gauge, which is diameter in sixty-fourths of an inch. A 64 ring gauge cigar is one inch across. Measure your longest cigar and your thickest, then allow a few millimetres of clearance at the ends so nothing is crushed when the lid closes. Tell us the count and layout and we calculate the internal dimensions and draw the dieline.

Inserts are where fit is won or lost. A paper or board insert with cut-outs holds each cigar in a fixed position, and a foam insert from our custom foam inserts range cushions them for shipping. Loose cigars rolling in an empty box is the fastest way to make a good product feel cheap.

Print and finish options

  • Printed wrap paper in full-colour CMYK, or Pantone-matched brand colours
  • Matte or gloss lamination, and soft-touch for a velvet feel
  • Foil stamping for the logo and band lines, and embossing or debossing for texture
  • Spot UV to pick out a crest against a matte field
  • Printed or lined interior, including a contrasting colour inside the lid

Our view: keep the outside simple. A deep matte colour with one foil stamped mark looks more expensive than a full-bleed pattern, and it is much easier to read on a shelf. Save the rich print for the inside of the lid, where the customer is looking when they open it.

Alcohol and tobacco rules differ by state and by product. Health warnings, age statements and any tax-related marks are your responsibility, so confirm them with your own adviser before artwork goes to print.

For other rigid shapes, see the full custom rigid boxes category. Send the cigar dimensions, the count and a quantity, even one, and we draw the dieline and quote it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What are custom cigar boxes made from?

Most are rigid chipboard, roughly 1.5 to 3 mm thick, wrapped in printed paper. Some designs add a satin or paper-lined interior and a fitted insert. The structure gives crisp mitred corners and holds shape under stacking, unlike a thin folding carton.

  2. Is there a minimum order for cigar boxes?

No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order a single sample to approve the fit and finish, then scale to as many as you need. Each box is made to your cigar size, count and artwork.

  3. Will a cigar box keep my cigars fresh?

A paper-wrapped rigid box is a presentation box, not a humidor, and it does not control humidity. Cigars meant to be stored should go in a humidified bag or humidor first, with the printed box serving as the branded gift case.

  4. How do I size a box for my cigars?

Measure the longest cigar and the thickest ring gauge, add a few millimetres of clearance at the ends and sides, then decide the count and layout. Send us those numbers and we calculate internal dimensions and draw the dieline for approval.

  5. Which lid style is best for a gift?

A hinged lid is the classic cigar box look. A two-piece lid-and-base feels quieter and more formal, while a magnetic closure suits smaller samplers. If unsure, tell us the count and where the box is sold, and we suggest one.

  6. Do you handle warnings and age statements on the box?

We print the artwork you supply and do not write regulatory text. Tobacco labelling, health warnings and age statements vary by state and product, so confirm requirements with your own legal adviser before approving the final proof.

A cigar box is the first thing a customer touches, so the build matters as much as the print. Ours are rigid chipboard boxes wrapped in printed paper, cut to your cigar length and ring gauge, with a fitted insert that keeps each cigar from rolling. Choose a hinged lid for the classic look, a two-piece box for gifting, or a magnetic closure for a sampler. Brands pick custom boxes over stock wooden ones because they get their own size, colours, foil and interior. TBPB makes every order with no minimum.

Pick the layout first: single row, two layers, or upright. That fixes the box size and the insert. Then choose the lid, since a hinged lid and a two-piece box change how the box opens and how the dieline is drawn. For finishes, a matte wrap with one foil mark is hard to beat, and the inside of the lid is the place for full colour. Order one sample first. Cigar fit is tight, and a few millimetres of clearance is easier to correct on a single piece than on a finished run.
