Shipping is free on every order, in the United States and internationally. We ship with FedEx, UPS, USPS or DHL depending on your location and order size, and you’ll get a tracking number as soon as your order leaves our facility.

A rigid kraft box is a setup box built from thick chipboard and wrapped in natural kraft paper, so it feels solid and stays square but looks earthy rather than glossy. TBPB makes custom rigid kraft boxes with no minimum order, and if you bring a written quote for the same specs, we will beat it.

How a rigid kraft box differs from a folding kraft carton

A folding carton is printed flat, cut, scored and shipped flat, then folded by you. A rigid box is built from stiff chipboard sheets that are glued and wrapped, and it arrives fully assembled and does not collapse. The wall thickness is the giveaway: rigid chipboard commonly runs around 1.5 to 3 mm, where folding kraft is a fraction of that. If your product needs a box that holds its shape on a shelf and survives being reopened for years, the rigid build is worth it. If you only need to ship something light, a folding kraft carton does the same job for less bulk.

The kraft is a wrap, so treat it like one

In most rigid builds, the chipboard is the structure and the paper on top is the skin. With kraft, that skin has a natural, slightly fibrous surface and a warm brown tone. Printing on it behaves like printing on any brown paper: inks are translucent, so colours print darker and more muted than on white. One or two spot colours, white ink, hot foil and blind deboss look best. Full colour photographs rarely look good on kraft. A matte aqueous or soft finish keeps it natural, whereas heavy gloss fights the whole point of choosing kraft.

What goes inside one

The best fits are products that gain from a slow, deliberate unboxing: a candle with a matching matchbook, a skincare trio, a folded shirt, a pair of headphones, a bottle with two glasses. Rigid kraft is less suited to damp or greasy contents, because the uncoated wrap can mark. Wrap such items in a pouch or a liner first. Keep the whole presentation consistent, with tissue and a belly band in matching natural tones, so the box feels designed rather than assembled.

Lid and structure choices

The classic structure is a two piece box with a separate lid that lifts straight off the base. It suits candles, skincare sets, apparel, tech accessories and gift hampers. If you want the lid to stay attached and close with a snap, ask about a magnetic closure rigid box, though check that your artwork suits the format. A standard two piece box is the simplest place to start. For inside fit, a fitted insert in paperboard or foam holds the product still, and you can browse custom foam inserts if the item is fragile.

Sizing and when to pick something else

Because a rigid box does not flex, the size must be right. Measure the product in its final form, with any pouch or tissue, and allow about 1/8 inch of clearance per side. Rigid boxes also ship fully built, so freight takes more space than flat cartons, which matters for large volumes. If you need to post products cheaply, a corrugated mailer is better. If the eco look matters more than the firm feel, a folding box from our kraft box range is the leaner option, and the broader rigid box range covers other wraps.

  • Chipboard walls wrapped in natural kraft paper
  • Lid-and-base, with magnetic and other lid options on request
  • One or two colour print, white ink, foil stamping, deboss
  • Matte or soft finishes that keep the natural look
  • Fitted paperboard or foam inserts, any quantity from one

Send your product dimensions and quantity, even if it is only one box, and we will draw the dieline and quote it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What is a rigid kraft box?

A rigid kraft box is a setup box made of thick chipboard wrapped in kraft paper. It arrives assembled, holds its shape, and has a natural, uncoated look. It suits gift sets, candles, skincare, apparel and anything that deserves a lift-off lid and a reusable box.

  2. Are rigid kraft boxes stronger than regular kraft boxes?

Yes, for stacking and handling. Chipboard around 1.5 to 3 mm thick does not collapse the way a folding carton can. They are not designed to ship without an outer carton, though, so for postal shipping use a corrugated mailer or an outer shipper.

  3. What prints well on kraft paper?

One or two spot colours, opaque white ink, hot foil and blind deboss show best. Because kraft is brown, translucent inks go darker and duller than on white stock. Full colour photographs usually look muddy, so choose white kraft or a coated wrap if the artwork depends on them.

  4. How do I size a rigid kraft box?

Measure the product at its widest, deepest and tallest points in final form, including any tissue or pouch. Add about 1/8 inch per side for clearance. Rigid boxes do not flex, so the fit has to be right. Send us the product or a clear photo with a ruler.

  5. What is the minimum order for custom rigid kraft boxes?

There is no minimum order. You can order one rigid kraft box to test the fit and feel, or thousands for a launch. We draw the dieline from your measurements and quote it, and we will beat a written quote for matching specs.

  6. Do rigid kraft boxes come flat or assembled?

Rigid boxes normally arrive fully assembled, because the chipboard is glued and wrapped. That makes freight bulkier than flat folding cartons. If shipping volume is a concern, ask about collapsible rigid options or a folding kraft carton instead.

Why Choose Rigid Kraft Boxes?

Rigid kraft boxes combine the firm walls of a setup box with the natural, matte surface of kraft paper. The chipboard core keeps the box square and stackable, while the kraft wrap gives a warm, uncoated look that suits handmade, eco-minded and artisan brands. They work for gift sets, candles, skincare, apparel and keepsakes, anywhere the box is part of the product. TBPB builds them to your exact dimensions and accepts any quantity, from one box.

Why Rigid Kraft Boxes Are the Perfect Choice for Your Packaging Needs

Decide how much structure you need. If the box will be reused or displayed, rigid is worth it. If it only has to ship a light product once, a folding kraft carton is leaner. Then choose the lid. A lift-off lid is the classic and most economical build, while a magnetic closure feels more deliberate. Plan your artwork for kraft: a single bold logo in white or foil beats a busy colour design. Finally, measure the product with its wrapping. Send the numbers and we will confirm the fit before production.
