A kraft window box is a folding carton made from unbleached brown paperboard with a cut-out panel that shows the product inside. TBPB prints and cuts them to your dimensions with no minimum order, and our price-beat guarantee covers the quote.

Why kraft and a window work together

Kraft has a look buyers read as natural and handmade, which is why bakers, soap makers, candle brands and small-batch food producers reach for it. The window handles the other half of the sale: people trust what they can see. A cookie, a bar of soap or a set of wooden toys looks more honest through film than in a drawing on the lid. The honest caveat is that the brown board dulls bright colors, so you plan the artwork differently than you would on white.

Getting the window right

The film is the part most buyers overlook. A clear PET or PLA-style film is glued behind the cutout. Make the opening smaller than you first think, since a very large window weakens the panel and a floppy front will crease in transit. A good rule is to leave at least 3/4 inch of solid board around the opening. Shape matters too: a rectangle is cheapest to tool, a circle or oval looks warmer for baked goods, and a die-cut shape like a heart or a leaf needs a custom cutting die.

If the contents are food or anything oily, tell us. Grease will stain unbleached board, and a window film does not replace a proper liner. For that, consider a coated or lined board, or a separate inner wrap. Contact suitability is something to check with your own regulatory adviser.

Styles to pair with the window

  • Tuck-end carton for flat items, soap and candles
  • Pillow style with a curved panel for small gifts and bath goods
  • Gable box with a handle for treats and party favors
  • Lock-bottom or auto-bottom tray for heavier items
  • Sleeve over a tray, where the window sits in the sleeve

The nearest sibling is our kraft tuck top boxes, which are the simplest way to add a window. For a gentler curved look, look at window pillow boxes, and if you want brighter print colors on the same eco look, a white kraft box takes ink better.

Print and finishing on brown board

Because kraft is dark, a light ink does not print true on it. White ink as an underprint helps, and one or two dark colors, often black plus one spot color, usually look best. Full-color photos tend to look muddy. Matte coating keeps the earthy character, and a gloss film would work against it. Hot foil is possible, though it reads strongest in gold or black. Embossing a logo into the board adds texture without ink.

Board weight depends on what is inside: a lightweight 16 to 18 pt carton is fine for candles or tea, while heavier items such as a jar or a set of three bars need a thicker 20 to 24 pt stock or a corrugated kraft. The full kraft box range shows more constructions.

Tell us the product size, whether you want the window on the lid or the front panel, and the quantity, even if it is one. We draw the dieline, mark the window, and send it back for approval. There is no minimum order.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Is there a minimum order for custom kraft window boxes?

No. TBPB works with no minimum order, so you can order one sample window box to test the fit and finish or thousands for a retail run. The dieline and the price-beat guarantee are the same at every quantity.

  2. What is the window made of on a kraft box?

Usually a clear plastic film glued behind a die-cut opening, such as PET or a compostable film. Film choice depends on your product and your sustainability goals. Tell us if the box needs to be recyclable and we will recommend the film that fits.

  3. How big can the window be?

Leave at least 3/4 inch of solid board around the opening. Larger windows weaken the panel, and the front will crease or sag in transit. If you want a big view of the product, we can move the window to the lid or add a thicker board.

  4. Can I print bright colors on kraft board?

Brown kraft dulls bright inks, so light and pastel colors look muted. Dark inks such as black or deep green print well, and a white underprint can lift a logo. If you need vivid color, a white kraft or coated board is the better base.

  5. Is a kraft window box suitable for food?

It can be, but grease will stain unbleached board and film is not a substitute for a liner. For baked goods, ask about a lined or coated board and check contact requirements with your own regulatory adviser. We print the artwork you supply.

  6. What box style should I choose for a window?

A tuck-end carton is the simplest choice for flat goods. Pillow boxes suit small gifts, gable boxes suit treats, and auto-bottom trays carry heavier items. Send us your product size and weight, and we will suggest the style that closes best.

Why Choose Kraft Window Boxes?

Kraft window boxes from TBPB pair unbleached brown paperboard with a clear die-cut opening so the product is visible before the box is opened. Candle makers, bakers, soap brands and craft sellers order them for the handmade look and the shopper trust that a window brings. We cut the dieline to your product, print your artwork and glue in the film, with no minimum order and a price-beat guarantee on every quote.

Why Kraft Window Boxes Are Perfect for Your Business

Choose the window position first, then the style. A lid window shows flat products best, while a front-panel window suits upright items. Keep a border of at least 3/4 inch around the opening. Pick kraft for the natural look and plan the artwork for dark board: one or two dark inks work better than full photos. If the contents are oily or the colors need to be bright, move to white kraft or a lined board. Weight your board to the product, light for candles and tea, heavier for jars.
