A kraft tuck top box is a folding carton cut from natural brown kraft board, with a lid that tucks into the front panel to close. TBPB makes them custom with no minimum order, and we beat any written quote on matching specs.

What kraft board does to your print

Kraft is brown, so ink behaves differently from white board. Dark single-color print, such as black or deep green, sits well on it. Light colors and fine gradients get muted because there is no white underneath, and bright reds can look dull. The honest answer for many brands is to design with the brown as a feature: one or two ink colors, bold type, a simple logo. If you need full-color photography, a white-coated board is the better surface and our white kraft boxes are worth a look.

Board and construction

Folding cartons in kraft are typically made from paperboard in the 16 to 24 pt range. Lighter board suits a soap bar or a pair of earrings; heavier board holds more weight and resists crushing in a carton. The tuck lid is held by friction, with an optional locking tab for extra security. It is not tamper-evident on its own, so add a sticker or band if that matters for your product.

Sizing the box

For a folding carton, measure the product’s length, width and height, then add roughly 1/8 inch of clearance per side. Too tight and the lid bows; too loose and the product rattles. For items with an awkward shape, send us the product and we will suggest a dieline. If the contents are heavy or fragile, a foam insert or paperboard insert keeps them in place.

  • Print: one or two spot colors, CMYK, or Pantone-matched ink
  • Finish: uncoated for a natural feel, or aqueous coating for scuff resistance
  • Extras: die-cut window, hang hole, foil or emboss on the logo

Kraft versus a standard white tuck box

Kraft reads as natural, handmade and low-waste. It is a good fit for soap, candles, tea and small food gifts, though it does not make the product safe or approved for food contact on its own; if the box touches food directly, confirm requirements with your regulatory adviser and use a liner or inner bag. For brighter, glossier branding, the standard tuck top boxes in white board will give you stronger color.

Next step: send product dimensions and a quantity, even one, and TBPB draws the dieline and quotes it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Is there a minimum order for kraft tuck top boxes?

No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order one box to test a fit or many thousands for a launch. Send your product size and artwork and we quote the exact quantity.

  2. What board thickness should I choose?

Lighter paperboard, around 16 pt, works for soap bars and small light items. Heavier board in the 20 to 24 pt range holds more weight and resists crushing. Tell us the product weight and we recommend a thickness.

  3. Can I print full color on kraft?

You can, but colors look muted because the brown board shows through. One or two dark spot colors look sharpest. For bright photography, a white-coated board prints cleaner and holds color better than natural kraft.

  4. Are kraft boxes food safe?

Kraft board alone is not a food-safe guarantee. If the box touches food directly, use a liner or inner bag and confirm contact-material rules with your own regulatory adviser. TBPB prints the artwork you supply.

  5. How do I find the right box size?

Measure the product length, width and height and add about 1/8 inch of clearance on each side. A tuck lid needs that slack to close without bowing. If unsure, send the product and we suggest a dieline.

  6. Can I add a window or hang hole?

Yes. A die-cut window shows the product and a hang hole lets the box hang on a peg. Both change the dieline, so mention them when you request a quote and we confirm they suit your box size.

Where Can You Use Kraft Tuck Top Boxes?

Kraft tuck top boxes are simple, honest packaging: natural brown paperboard folded into a carton with a tuck-in lid. Because the board is unbleached, the look reads as natural and handmade, which is why soap makers, candle brands, tea sellers and small food producers choose them. Print runs best in one or two dark ink colors. TBPB makes them to your exact size with no minimum order, so you can try a design before you scale it.

What Types of Kraft Tuck Top Boxes Can You Choose?

Decide on the print first, because kraft limits it. Dark ink on brown looks sharp; light colors and photos get muted. Then match board weight to the product: a lighter board for a soap bar, a heavier board for jars or heavier items. Measure the product and allow about 1/8 inch per side. If you want a window, a hang hole or a foil logo, mention it early since each one changes the dieline. When color matters more than the natural look, we will point you to a white board option instead.
