A kraft paper gable box is a carry-handle carton with a pitched roof, made from natural brown paperboard, and it suits light gifts, favors and baked goods. TBPB prints them custom with no minimum order, and we will beat a written quote for the same specs.

How a gable box is built and closes

The body is a rectangular tray with two sloped panels that meet at the top to form the roof. A tab on one side locks into a slot on the other, which holds the roof shut and creates the handle. There is no glue at the closure, so it opens and re-closes easily, and it ships flat. That flat-pack design is the main reason gable boxes are popular for events: a few hundred stack in a small space until you need them.

What kraft board does for this style

Kraft gives gable boxes their natural, handmade look, which fits bakeries, craft markets, coffee shops and rustic wedding favors. The board is typically folding carton weight, around 16 to 24 pt, which is enough for a light load. Because kraft is brown, white ink does not print on it the way it does on a white sheet. Dark inks, one-colour stamps and foil read best, while pale colours turn muddy. If you want bright, full-colour artwork, a white-coated sheet is the better call, and our cardboard gable boxes are built for that.

Sizing and what the handle can carry

Gable boxes are built around contents, so measure what goes inside, then leave room for the roof slope. The usable height is lower than the box height because the top panels angle inward. A good habit is to place your real product in a mocked-up box and check that the roof closes without pressing on it. The handle is paperboard, so it suits a light load like cookies, candies, small candles or party favors. Heavy or dense items need a different structure; a corrugated option such as kraft corrugated boxes will take more weight.

  • Board: natural kraft, folding carton weight
  • Print: one-colour or CMYK, with dark inks working best on brown
  • Finishes: matte or gloss coating, foil stamping and embossing where the board allows
  • Options: a window patch, an inner liner or tray, and custom dimensions
  • Delivered flat, ready to fold

Getting the look right on brown board

Kraft is not a neutral canvas, and it changes how every ink behaves. A black logo looks crisp and a deep green or navy looks rich, but a pastel pink will come out closer to a dusty tan. Design for the board rather than fighting it. Many bakery and favor orders use a single dark colour and a simple stamp-style logo, which prints cleanly and keeps the natural look. Foil stamping adds a small accent without needing a full-colour print. If a client expects a pure white background, tell us before artwork is finalized so we can suggest a better board.

Food contact and when to choose something else

Gable boxes are popular for baked goods, but we do not make a food-safe claim for the board itself. If your product touches the board directly, line it with greaseproof paper or a bag, and check contact rules with your own regulatory adviser. For goods that need a lid and a flat stacking top, kraft boxes with lid are more practical. The full kraft box range shows the alternatives.

Next step: send the product size and quantity, even if it is a single box, and we will draw the dieline and quote it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What are kraft paper gable boxes used for?

They are used for party favors, bakery treats, small gifts, candles and market-stall products. The pitched top forms a handle, so the box doubles as its own carry bag. They suit light loads best, since the handle is paperboard and not meant for heavy items.

  2. How do I size a gable box for my product?

Measure your product in length, width and height, then remember the roof slopes inward, so usable height is less than the box height. The safest method is to mock up a box with your real product inside and check that the top closes cleanly.

  3. Can kraft gable boxes carry full-colour print?

They can, but brown kraft mutes pale colours and white ink does not show well. Dark inks, one-colour stamps and foil give the strongest result. For bright full-colour artwork, a white-coated board such as our cardboard gable boxes is the better choice.

  4. Is there a minimum order?

No. There is no minimum order, so you can order one kraft gable box as a sample or thousands for an event. We draw a dieline for your size and quote the quantity you actually need rather than a preset bundle.

  5. Are kraft gable boxes safe for food?

We do not claim the board is food safe. For baked goods, many bakers add a greaseproof liner or wrapper so the product does not touch the board. Confirm the contact requirements for your product with your own regulatory adviser before ordering.

  6. Do gable boxes arrive assembled?

They arrive flat to save space and shipping volume. Folding takes a few seconds: shape the body, tuck the side tab into the slot and the roof locks. It is simple enough for customers or event helpers to assemble themselves.

Product Overview

Kraft paper gable boxes are the house-shaped carry cartons you see at bakeries, craft fairs and weddings. The natural brown board gives a handmade look, the roof panels lock into a handle, and the box ships flat until it is needed. They work best for light products such as cookies, candies, favors and small candles. TBPB prints your artwork on the kraft, cuts the carton to your product size, and accepts any quantity, including a single box.

Learn More About Kraft Paper Gable Box

Pick the size by mocking up one box with your real product, because the sloped roof reduces usable height. Choose your print to suit brown board: dark inks, one-colour stamps and foil look strongest, while pale colours go dull. If you need bright artwork, ask about white board instead. For food, plan a liner or wrapper and confirm contact needs with your adviser. If the load is heavy, a stronger box style will serve you better than a paperboard handle.
