Kraft Sleeve Boxes

Kraft sleeve boxes are open-ended kraft paperboard sleeves that slide over a tray, a product or a stack of items, giving you a natural brown printed surface without a full closed carton. TBPB cuts and prints them to your exact dimensions, with no minimum order, so you can test the fit on a single piece first.

A kraft sleeve box is a band of kraft paperboard folded into a tube with open ends, made to slide over a tray, a bar of soap, a set of cards or any product that already has a base. It gives you a printed brand surface in natural brown board for less material than a fully closed carton. TBPB makes kraft sleeves to your exact size with no minimum order and beats written quotes on the same specs.

What a sleeve does, and what it cannot do

A sleeve is a wrapper, not a container. It holds a product together and carries the branding, but the product itself has to sit in something or be self-supporting. Common pairings are a sleeve over a kraft tray, over a stack of soap or candle tins, over a pair of folded linens, or around a bundle of bottles in a gift set. Because the ends are open, the contents are visible from either end, which is a feature if you want the product glimpsed and a drawback if it is loose or fragile.

If the contents need to be sealed against dust, tampering or shipping knocks, a sleeve alone will not do it. Pair it with a tray, or choose a closed carton such as a kraft tuck top box.

Sizing the sleeve so it slides, but does not fall off

The fit between sleeve and contents decides whether the pack feels good. Too tight and the customer fights it, tearing the board. Too loose and it slips off in transit. Measure the tray or product at its widest cross-section, then allow a small clearance, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch per side, so the sleeve slides under light friction. Tell us the finished width, height and the length of sleeve you want covering the product. A shorter sleeve reads as a belly band, a longer one hides most of the item.

Kraft board has a little give, which helps, but it will not forgive a sleeve cut half an inch too wide. If you are unsure, ask for a plain unprinted sample sleeve first. It is a quick check that can save a reprint. Check the fit with the product at room temperature and again after a day, because paperboard can relax slightly once it has been folded and handled.

Kraft board and how it takes ink

Natural kraft is brown, so printed colours show darker and warmer than on white board. Single-colour black or white ink prints crisply on kraft and is the usual choice for a clean, minimal look. Bright colours lose some punch, and white ink on brown reads well when it is solid. If you need colours that stay true, ask about a white-coated kraft face, or consider a white board sleeve instead.

  • Kraft paperboard in standard folding-carton weights, chosen to suit sleeve length and contents
  • One-colour or full-colour printing, with black and white ink popular on kraft
  • Matte aqueous coating for scuff resistance
  • Hot foil or embossing on the sleeve face for a more finished look
  • Die-cut windows or cut-outs so the product shows through

Where a sleeve earns its place

Sleeves also make sense when you want one base tray reused across several products, with only the printed band changing. That keeps tray stock simple while the sleeve carries the product name, scent or flavour. Soap bars, candles in tins, notebooks, tea bundles, apparel basics and gift sets all suit sleeves. If you are putting several small items under one band, take a look at our gift sleeves and the wider kraft gift boxes range for structures that do close. Next step

Send the product or tray dimensions and the quantity, even if it is a single piece. We will draw the dieline, confirm how much of the product the sleeve should cover, and quote it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Is there a minimum order on kraft sleeve boxes?

No. TBPB has no minimum order on kraft sleeve boxes. You can order one to test how it slides over your product, then increase the run once the fit is right. Send the dimensions and your artwork and we will quote it.

  2. What is the difference between a sleeve box and a regular box?

A sleeve has open ends and slides over a tray or product, so it brands and holds the contents but does not seal them. A regular box is closed on all sides. Sleeves use less board and cost less to assemble, but they offer no protection on their own.

  3. What size should I order for a kraft sleeve?

Measure the widest cross-section of the tray or product, then allow about 1/16 to 1/8 inch per side so it slides on lightly. Decide how much of the length the sleeve should cover. If you are unsure, send us the item and we will recommend a size.

  4. Will colours print well on kraft?

Dark inks such as black print crisply on kraft, and solid white ink also reads well. Bright colours look duller and warmer than on white board because the brown shows through. If exact colour matters, ask about white-coated board or print a small test first.

  5. Can I add a window or cut-out to a sleeve?

Yes. We can die-cut a window or shaped opening in the sleeve so the product shows through. Because the board is thin, we recommend keeping cut-outs away from the folds. Send your artwork and tell us which area you want visible.

  6. Are kraft sleeves recyclable?

Plain kraft paperboard is paper and is accepted in most curbside paper recycling, but coatings, foils and laminates can complicate that. If recyclability matters to you, choose a simple one-colour print with aqueous coating and tell us so we can advise.

Product Overview

Kraft sleeve boxes are a lean way to brand a product that already has a base: a tray of soap, a tin candle, a notebook, a gift bundle. The natural brown board gives an earthy, handmade look, and a sleeve uses far less board than a full carton. TBPB prints and cuts them to your measurements with no minimum order, so you can prove the fit on a single piece before you commit to a bigger run.

Which Types of Kraft Sleeve Boxes Are Most Popular?

Choose a sleeve when the product can stand on its own or sits on a tray, and you mainly want branding and a clean grouping. Choose a closed carton when the item is fragile, loose or must be sealed. Pick the length of coverage deliberately: a narrow band looks light and modern, a long sleeve hides the item. Black or white ink gives the sharpest result on kraft. If your brand colours must be exact, ask us about white board and request a printed sample before you place the full order.
