What makes a shaped bag different from a standard pouch
A standard mylar pouch is a flat rectangle, sealed on the sides and bottom. A shaped one is cut with a custom die so the outline follows the artwork. That die-cut edge is what gets you noticed on a shelf or in a hand, but it also changes the engineering. The sealing area still has to run all the way around the filled part, and the zipper, if there is one, has to sit on a straight section near the top. So the shape is a design around those two constraints, not a free cut anywhere. Simple outlines with gentle curves, such as a leaf, a drop or a rounded bottle, behave best. Narrow points and deep notches waste film and leave very little room for product.
Film structure and what goes inside
Mylar bags are laminated film, usually a printed outer layer of PET bonded to a metallized or foil layer and a heat-sealable inner layer such as polyethylene. That structure is why they block light and slow oxygen and moisture. It suits dry goods such as coffee, tea, granola, candy, supplements and similar products. Because the bag is a barrier, the right questions are how much it holds, how long you need the contents to stay fresh, and whether you need a clear window. Sizing a shaped pouch
Start with how much product has to fit by volume, not by shape. A shaped pouch holds less than a rectangle of the same height and width, because the curves take space away. Give us the volume or weight of the product and a rough shape idea, and we will give you the pouch dimensions and the usable fill area. Leave the sealing margins untouched by artwork. A flat shape without a gusset is fine for light, flat items. A stand-up style needs a bottom gusset, which limits how irregular the bottom of the shape can be. Finish and when to choose a standard bag
Printing is full-color CMYK with Pantone matching for brand colors, and finishes include matte and gloss laminates. A fair warning: if you will run many SKUs or tweak the artwork often, a standard rectangle with a good print job is easier to manage than a die-cut shape, since the shape ties each design to its own die.
