Most mylar you have handled is metallized polyester, and that is exactly why it holds a smell and blocks light so well. It also does not break down, which is the honest catch nobody selling mylar likes to mention. Our biodegradable mylar bags swap that petroleum film for a kraft or plant based PLA lined structure that still gives you a real moisture and oxygen barrier, then actually composts at end of life instead of sitting in a landfill for centuries.
The trade off is shelf life. A compostable liner does not match the multi year barrier of a fully metallized pouch, so these are best for products that move in weeks to a few months, coffee, tea, granola, dried herbs, small batch snacks. You still get a resealable zipper, a tear notch, and a matte kraft face that takes print beautifully. If you need a stand up pouch that photographs like a premium brand and lines up with your sustainability claims, this is the format.
There is no minimum order, so you can test a compostable line without committing to a pallet of film. Print options run from a single spot color on kraft up to full color with a soft touch finish. Tell us the fill weight and the product and we will point you to the right size and barrier level.
How to choose a biodegradable mylar bag
Are biodegradable mylar bags actually compostable?
The plant based and kraft lined versions we offer are designed to break down in the right conditions, but home compost and industrial compost are not the same. We will tell you which certification path a given material follows so your on pack claim stays accurate.
Do they protect against moisture and oxygen as well as regular mylar?
They give a strong barrier for short to medium shelf life products. For multi year storage a fully metallized pouch still wins, and we will say so rather than oversell the eco version.
What is the minimum order?
There is no minimum. You can order a small run to test packaging and reorder once you know your sizing.
Can you print my logo and sustainability claims on kraft?
Yes. Kraft takes print well, and we can add resealable zippers, tear notches, and hang holes. Verify any certified compostable logo with your material spec before it goes to print.
