How the gusset decides what the bag can carry

The gusset is what separates a stand up pouch from a flat one. Once the bag is filled, the folded bottom spreads out into a base, and whether that base holds depends on fill weight, product density and bag height. A tall, narrow bag full of dense granola tends to lean or tip. The same weight in a wider, lower bag sits square. A common mistake is ordering by capacity alone, because two bags with the same volume can behave very differently on a shelf once the proportions change. Light, airy products such as tea or chips can go taller. Heavy or powdery products usually want a wider base.

Sizing the pouch around the real fill

Size from your actual product, not from a guess. Fill a bag or jar with the product at the weight you sell, then note the width it needs, the height up to where the zipper will sit, and how deep the gusset has to be to carry it. Leave headspace above the product for the zipper and the top seal, because a bag filled to the brim is hard to close and looks overstuffed. Film layers, closures and finish

These pouches are laminated films: a printable outer layer, a barrier layer in the middle, and a heat-seal layer on the inside. The barrier is what slows light, oxygen and moisture, which matters for coffee, tea, supplements and anything that goes stale. A clear window shows the product but lets in more light than a fully opaque bag, so it is a trade-off worth thinking through for light-sensitive contents. Matte film looks understated and hides fingerprints, gloss gives stronger colour under store lighting. A press-to-close zipper lets customers reseal, a tear notch gives a clean first opening, and a hang hole lets the bag go on a peg.
