What makes a bag resist smell
Two things do the work, and they have to work together. The first is the film: a laminate with a metallised or foil layer is far less permeable than plain plastic, so aroma molecules pass through very slowly. The second is the closure. A pouch with great film and a loose zipper will still leak odour at the seal. A heat-sealed top, or a press-to-close zipper that is pressed along its whole length, keeps the pouch tight. Be wary of any supplier that promises an absolute guarantee; odour containment is a matter of degree and depends on the product and how the bag is used.
Style, size and fill
Most buyers choose a stand-up pouch, because it stands on a shelf and shows the brand on the front. Flat pouches are simpler and suit single-serve packs. Size by volume, not by weight alone, since flower, ground coffee and tea all fill a pouch differently. Fill the bag to roughly two-thirds so the top can fold or seal cleanly. A bag that is too full forces the zipper open and breaks the seal.

Print and film finish
Matte film hides fingerprints and gives a quiet, modern look; gloss shows colour more vividly but marks easily. A spot gloss on a matte base lets a logo catch the light. Dark bags look rich, while light colours can look washed out because of the metallised layer underneath. Keep text above 6 pt and allow a little extra space near seals, where the printed area tapers.
A simple way to test a sample
Do not trust a spec sheet alone. Fill a sample bag with your real product, close it the way a customer would, and leave it in a closed room or a car for a day. Then smell the outside, especially along the zipper and the bottom seal. If you can pick up the scent, the weak point is usually the closure or an over-filled pouch, not the film. Try a second sample with a heat seal on top of the zipper. Because there is no minimum order, testing two or three sample bags is a normal way to start.
