A circle mylar bag is a round foil barrier pouch, die cut from the same laminate as a rectangular mylar bag, a printed PET outer, an aluminum foil or metallized barrier, and a food grade PE seal layer, with a zipper across the top and a tear notch above it. We make them in 3 to 8 inch diameters, printed both sides, with a hang hole or a clear window, and with no minimum order. The number that sets the bag is the seal: a circle needs a 3/8 inch sealed edge all the way round, so the inside cavity is three quarters of an inch smaller than the finished diameter, and the zipper runs across the widest straight section near the top.
Round bags exist because a shelf or a screen full of rectangles is where a circle gets noticed. They cost more per bag than a rectangle, because the die and the trim are real, so they suit products where the pack is part of the sell: gummies and candy, coffee and tea samples, cosmetic and bath products, seasonal and licensed goods.
Sizes
| Finished diameter | Inside cavity | Holds | Zipper |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 in | 2.25 in | a few gummies, a tea portion, a bath bomb | heat seal only |
| 4 in | 3.25 in | 15 to 25 g candy, a coffee sample, a cosmetic sample | yes |
| 5 in | 4.25 in | 30 to 50 g, a 3.5 g portion with room, small parts | yes |
| 6 in | 5.25 in | 60 to 90 g, a single serve snack | yes |
| 8 in | 7.25 in | 120 to 200 g, a retail candy or snack pack | yes, optional gusset |
Laminate and thickness
3 to 3.5 mil for 3 and 4 inch bags, 4.5 to 5 mil for 5 inches and up; thicker laminate on a small circle makes it stiff to open. Full aluminum foil gives total opacity and the longest shelf life for coffee, tea and supplements. Metallized PET is lighter and fine for candy and dry goods. A clear front with a foil back shows the product and keeps most of the barrier. All seal on the PE inner layer, so a small impulse sealer closes them by hand for sample runs.
Closures and features
A press to close zipper across the top of the circle on bags 4 inches and up; 3 inch bags are heat sealed and torn. A tear notch above the zipper. A hang hole in the seal margin for peg display. A window die cut in the front and left clear. Matte, gloss and soft touch finishes; holographic effects use the foil layer as the ink’s ground.
Full color both sides, printed on the outer PET under the surface. The print panel on a 4 inch circle is about 3 inches across once the seal and zipper are allowed for, so artwork is built on the dieline we supply, with the seal ring, zipper line and hang hole marked. Flavor and lot panels can be printed per version or left as a white panel for a label.
In short
What to send us: the fill weight or the item, the diameter you have in mind, whether it hangs, and the number of versions. What you get back: a diameter with the seal and zipper allowed for, a laminate and thickness, a dieline with the print panel marked, and physical samples to fill and seal. What it costs you to start: nothing. Free design, free dieline, free samples, no minimum order.
Circle mylar bag questions
What sizes do circle mylar bags come in?
3 to 8 inch finished diameters. A 4 inch bag holds 15 to 25 grams of candy or a coffee sample, a 5 inch holds 30 to 50 grams, a 6 inch a single serve snack, an 8 inch a retail pack. The inside cavity is three quarters of an inch smaller than the finished size because of the seal.
Can a round mylar bag have a zipper?
Yes, on bags 4 inches and up, across the widest straight section near the top with a tear notch above it. 3 inch bags are too small for a zipper and are heat sealed and torn open.
Do circle bags keep food fresh like rectangular ones?
Yes. Same laminate: printed PET, a foil or metallized barrier, a food grade PE seal layer. The shape changes the die, not the barrier. Full foil for the longest shelf life; a clear front with a foil back when the product should show.
How big is the print area on a circle bag?
About three quarters of an inch less than the finished diameter, once the seal ring and zipper are allowed for: a 3 inch panel on a 4 inch bag, a 5 inch panel on a 6 inch bag. We send the dieline with the panel marked before artwork starts.
Is there a minimum order?
No. A few hundred for a sample program or hundreds of thousands for retail. Free design and dieline, free samples to fill and seal, and a printed proof before the run.
No minimum order. One or a full run. Free design and dieline, and a printed proof before production. Free samples so you can fill and seal a sample before you commit. Price match: send a written quote for the same size, board, print and quantity and we will beat it.
