People say mylar for almost any printed pouch, but the material under the name changes how it behaves. A foil-backed pouch with a clear front window blocks light across most of its surface and shows the product through the window. A fully clear pouch has no metallized layer at all, so it shows everything and also lets light in. For tea, spices, supplements or anything that fades or goes stale in daylight, the clear front with a foil back is usually the smarter pick. For hard goods, craft supplies and products that sell on the look alone, fully clear works.
Shapes and closures
Stand up pouches have a bottom gusset and sit on a shelf. Flat pouches are sealed on three sides and hang on a peg or slide into a box. Both can take a press-to-close zipper, a tear notch for the first opening, and rounded corners that stop the bag snagging. A hang hole lets a retailer peg the bag. Working out the right size
Fill a sample bag with your product, then measure the width and height of the packed bag. For stand up pouches, add the gusset depth. One layout tip: keep the clear area honest about what the customer sees. A large window on a half-filled bag exposes empty space and makes the product look small. Size the bag to the fill, or use a smaller window shape and let the printed area carry the brand.
