Mylar comic bags are clear, archival polyester sleeves that protect a comic book from moisture, acid migration and handling for decades, which is why collectors use them instead of the polypropylene bags sold with backing boards. We make them in any size with no minimum order, and we can print your shop name, logo or grading label on the flap. A current-size comic bag measures 7 by 10.5 inches with a 1.5 inch flap, and a 4 mil bag is the collector standard.

Why mylar and not a regular comic bag

Ordinary comic bags are polypropylene or polyethylene. They are fine for a year or two, then they yellow, go brittle and can transfer plasticizer to the cover. Polyester film, the material sold under the mylar name, is chemically inert. It does not off-gas, does not yellow and does not react with paper. A 2 mil mylar sleeve is a proper archival barrier. A 4 mil sleeve is stiff enough to stand a comic in a box without a board, which is what most serious collectors want.

Picking the right size

Measure the comic, not the bag you already own. Modern comics are 6.625 by 10.25 inches, which is why the current size bag is 7 by 10.5 and leaves a small margin. Silver age books are wider, and golden age books wider still, so bagging a 1950s issue in a current bag will crease the spine. If you carry a mix, the Silver size fits both modern and Silver age without slop. Thick trades and prestige formats need a wider gusset, and we cut those to your measurement.

Printed bags for shops and graders

A shop that bags every book at checkout has a marketing surface it is not using. We print a logo, address or QR code on the flap in one color, and the clear body stays clear so the cover shows. For grading services and dealers we print a label panel for grade, issue and price sticker, which keeps the sticker off the film that touches the comic.

In short

Mylar comic bags are archival polyester sleeves that keep a comic safe for decades. Order any size with no minimum, choose 2 mil for economy or 4 mil for the collector standard, and add flap printing if you run a shop.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What thickness of mylar comic bag should I buy?

2 mil is a proper archival barrier and is fine for books stored flat or with a board. 4 mil is the collector standard because it holds its shape and stands in a box on its own. 5 mil is for graded slabs and display.

  2. Do I still need backing boards with mylar bags?

Not for protection, since the film itself is inert. Boards are for stiffness and flat storage. A 4 mil bag is stiff enough that many collectors skip the board.

  3. Will the adhesive strip damage the comic?

Not if it is on the bag body. We place the strip on the bag so the flap folds onto it, which means the adhesive never faces the book. Strips on the flap can touch the cover when the bag is opened.

  4. What is the minimum order?

None. We ship ten unprinted bags for a test or a full pallet for a shop, and printed runs start at whatever quantity you need.

  5. Are these true mylar?

They are archival polyester film, which is the same material that name refers to. We do not use polypropylene or polyethylene in these sleeves.

No minimum order. One or a full run. Free design and dieline, and a printed proof before production. Free samples so you can bag a comic from your own stock and check the fit before you commit. Price match: send a written quote for the same size, board, print and quantity and we will beat it.

Mylar comic bags that last as long as the comic

Archival polyester sleeves in current, Silver, Golden and magazine sizes or cut to your measurement. 2 mil to 5 mil, open or resealable flap, optional flap printing, matching acid-free boards, no minimum order.

Sizing and closures

Measure the book, not the old bag. Current 7 x 10.5, Silver 7.25 x 10.5, Golden 7.75 x 10.5. Put the adhesive strip on the bag body so it never faces the cover, and print the flap if you want your shop name on every book that leaves the counter.
