Bux board boxes are printed boxes made from bux board, a thick laminated paperboard that holds its shape better than ordinary folding carton stock. TBPB makes them to your size and artwork with no minimum order, and if you have a written quote for the same specs we will beat it.
Where bux board sits between carton and rigid
The names for paperboard grades vary from mill to mill, so it helps to describe what bux board does rather than argue about the label. It is built up from several layers of board bonded together, which makes it noticeably stiffer and more crush resistant than a single sheet of coated folding carton paperboard. It is also a different construction from a rigid setup box, which wraps printed paper around a thick chipboard shell and is assembled by hand. A bux board box keeps the folded, flat-shipping nature of a carton while giving the walls more backbone. If you are unsure which grade you need, send us a sample product and tell us what the box has to survive.
What it suits and what it does not
Choose bux board when the product is dense enough to bend an ordinary carton: candles, bottles in sets, tins, tools, boxed accessories, multi-item gift sets. It also suits retail boxes that get handled, restacked and returned to a shelf many times. It is not the answer for everything. For a light product like a lip balm a lighter stock is plenty, and a heavy glass item that ships through parcel carriers should travel in a corrugated outer carton, because paperboard alone is not shipping protection.
Sizing, print and finish
Size the box from the product: measure the widest, deepest and tallest points and add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side. Thicker board takes slightly more room at each fold, so do not copy dimensions from a thin-stock carton. Printing is CMYK with Pantone matching, and finishes include matte or gloss aqueous coating, soft touch lamination, spot UV, foil stamping and embossing. Heavier board scores and folds more stiffly, so fine detail and deep embossing near a fold line are worth discussing with us before you finalize artwork.
Closure and structure are decided at the dieline stage. A tuck closure is the common choice and works well when the board is stiff enough to hold the tab, but a heavier product may call for a locking bottom or a lid style instead. We would rather talk through weight and handling up front than have you discover a bottom that sags in the first week of sales. Ask for a sample if the board feel matters to your brand, since stiffness is hard to judge from a photograph.
Artwork needs a little extra margin on this board. Keep logos and small text clear of folds and cut lines, leave the glue flap free of ink, and supply vector files where possible. We check every file against the dieline before it goes to print and flag anything that sits too close to a crease.

Other styles worth comparing
If you want the lightest possible carton, standard paperboard styles such as tuck top boxes are the simpler route. For a firmer, more everyday box that still ships flat, compare chipboard boxes. If the priority is durability through repeat handling, look at custom durable boxes. You can also see the wider custom retail packaging range for display-focused options.
Next step: send us your product dimensions and the quantity you need, even one box, and we will draw the dieline and quote it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order for bux board boxes?
No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order a single box to test the board and fit, or thousands for a full launch. Send a written quote from another supplier for the same specs and we will beat it.
What is bux board?
Bux board is a thick, laminated paperboard built from several bonded layers. It is stiffer and more crush resistant than regular folding carton stock, but it is not a wrapped rigid box. Grade names vary between mills, so we confirm the exact board with you at quote time.
Is bux board the same as a rigid box?
No. A rigid box has a thick chipboard shell wrapped in printed paper and is assembled by hand. A bux board box is a printed paperboard carton made from thicker laminated stock. It keeps the structure of a carton and is stiffer than standard stock, without becoming a setup box.
What products suit bux board boxes?
Heavier or denser products that would bend a thin carton: candles, bottle sets, tins, boxed accessories and gift sets. It also suits retail boxes that get handled often. Very light items usually do not need this much board, so we may suggest something lighter.
Can bux board boxes be printed and finished?
Yes. Printing is CMYK with Pantone matching, and finishes include matte or gloss coating, soft touch lamination, spot UV, foil stamping and embossing. Thicker board folds more stiffly, so keep artwork and deep embossing away from fold lines, and ask us if you want a check.
How do I size a bux board box?
Measure your product at its widest, deepest and tallest points and add about 1/8 inch per side. Thicker board uses a little more room at each fold, so do not reuse dimensions from a thin carton. Send the numbers and we draw the dieline for you to approve.
