The lid can be a hinged flap, a tuck, or a separate lid and base. Hinged flaps are cheaper to assemble and keep the pack together. A separate lid feels more like a gift box but is fiddlier to fill by hand in volume.
Board and print for the dark look
A black-on-black design with spot UV or foil is a favourite for coffin boxes: the print is only a ghost until light hits it. Coated white board gives the most contrast for orange and purple palettes, and kraft suits a rustic cemetery look with dark ink. Folding carton board in the 16 to 24 pt range stands up well, because a die-cut shape with narrow ends needs some stiffness to stay square.
