Why holsters need their own carton
A generic box rarely suits a holster. The product has a curved body, a rigid or semi-rigid shell, and hardware that sits proud of the surface, such as a belt clip, a paddle, a loop or a retention strap. Put that in a plain rectangular carton and the clip presses on one panel, the curve leaves a gap on the other, and the holster slides forward every time the box moves. A box built around the actual shape lets the product sit in one stable position, which is what keeps the print undamaged on the shelf and in shipping.
Measuring a holster for the box
Lay the holster on a flat surface in the position it will sit in the box. Measure the longest point, the widest point, and the full depth, including the clip, loop or paddle. Do not measure the body alone and add a guess for the hardware. Allow about 1/8 inch of clearance around the product for a folding carton, and more if you plan to include a manual, a card or a second small item. If the holster comes in several sizes, send us the largest and smallest and we can talk through whether one box size or a few suits the range.
Board, display and print
Most holster cartons are folding cartons in paperboard in the 18 to 24 pt range, which holds a flat face under a modest weight. For a heavier holster or one hung on a peg, we can talk about a thicker board or a reinforced hang tab. If the box ships by itself, corrugated is a better outer protection than a printed carton, and a retail carton inside it keeps the shelf look. Print is CMYK or Pantone, with matte or gloss aqueous coating, and spot UV or foil on the brand mark. A matte finish tends to suit tactical and leather-adjacent products, because it shows fewer fingerprints.

Can I add a window so buyers can see the holster?
Yes. A window cut-out lets buyers check the shape and finish before they buy. It is a good choice for a holster with a distinctive texture or colour. The window sits on one panel, so tell us which face should show the product when you request the quote.
Will the belt clip damage the box?
It can if the carton is cut loosely. A sharp clip pressed against a thin panel eventually pokes through. A properly fitted dieline, a thicker board at the pressure point, or a small insert keeps the clip supported and the print unmarked on the shelf.
