Toy packaging by product

Each kind of toy fails in its own way on the way to the buyer. Figures snap at the ankles, squishies get crushed flat, blind boxes get shaken and weighed in the aisle. These pages go deep on one product type each.

Blind box packaging

Sealed boxes, foil-lined or printed inner bags, checklist cards, counter displays and master cases for a whole series, quoted as one kit. Includes a free series planner.

Squishy toy packaging

Boxes and bags for slow-rising foam, stretchy TPR and gel-filled squishies, sized so the toy is held without being squeezed.

Action figure packaging

Window boxes with die-cut trays, hang tab cartons for peg walls and plain blank boxes for customizers.

Doll boxes

Tall window boxes with backer cards and inserts that keep hair, outfits and accessories in place.

Collectible boxes

Rigid boxes with foam cradles for limited editions, art toys and figures that live on a shelf, not in a toy chest.

Display toy boxes

Shelf boxes that show the toy and carry the brand story on every panel.

Toy box styles and what each one is for

StyleBest forHow it sells

Pick the packaging by where the toy will sell

Store shelves and peg walls

Retail buyers judge a toy box from about six feet away, so the front panel does the selling: product name, age grade and one clear picture or window. Ask the retailer whether the toy will sit on a shelf or hang on a peg before the dieline is drawn. A shelf box needs a stable base. A peg box needs a hang tab strong enough for the weight. Leave room for the barcode and the required warnings on the panel the store expects.

Online and direct to consumer

A toy sold online rides in a carrier network, not on a shelf. The box has to survive drops and the dimensional weight has to stay sensible, so keep empty space inside to a minimum and pick a mailer box or a retail box inside a plain shipping box. Print inside the lid if the unboxing matters to your marketing.

Collectibles and blind box series

Collectors buy the box as much as the toy. Consistent artwork across a series, a lineup panel showing every design and a box that is pleasant to keep all lift resale value, which keeps people buying. The blind box page covers the full kit.

Wholesale and trade shows

Distributors and store buyers order in case packs. Decide how many units go in an inner pack and a master case early, because it fixes the size of every carton downstream. Our wholesale program handles runs of 1,000 units and up with volume pricing and reorder scheduling.

What has to be printed on a toy box sold in the U.S.

Most toys for children 12 and under carry three things on the package. These are a tracking label with the maker, production date and location and batch, a choking hazard warning when the toy has small parts and is meant for ages 3 to 6, and the country of origin. Toys also need the name and address of the producer or distributor under ASTM F963. A Children's Product Certificate has to exist for each toy, but it travels with the shipment rather than being printed on the box. Our toy labeling guide lists each rule with its federal citation, so your designer can lay out the panels before anything is printed.

This is general information, not legal advice. Your testing lab or compliance advisor confirms what applies to your toy.

Materials and finishes

MaterialWhere it fits
Folding carton paperboardMost retail toy boxes, tuck end cartons, blind boxes and hang tab boxes. Prints sharp photography.
Corrugated boardHeavier toys, mailer boxes and shipping cases. Can be printed in full color.
Rigid board wrapped in printed paperCollector editions and gift sets meant to be kept.
Clear window filmShows the toy while keeping fingers and dust out.
Foam or paperboard insertsHold figures, accessories and fragile parts so nothing rattles.
Foil-lined or printed inner bagsHide blind box contents and keep scented squishies fresh.

Finishes change how the box feels in a hand. Foil stamping and spot UV pick out a logo, embossing makes it raised, and a matte or soft-touch coat reads as premium on collector boxes. Gloss lamination stands up better to handling in busy toy aisles.

Toy packaging questions

What is the best packaging for toys?

It depends on where the toy sells. Window boxes suit figures and dolls on store shelves, hang tab boxes suit small toys on peg walls, blind boxes suit collectible series, and mailer boxes suit toys sold online. Most brands need two layers: a retail box the buyer sees and a shipping carton that protects a case of them.

Do you make blind boxes with foil inner bags?

Yes. We make the printed blind box, foil-lined or printed inner bags, checklist cards, counter displays and master shipping cases, and quote them together as one series kit.

Is there a minimum order for custom toy boxes?

No. You can order samples and small first runs. Orders of 1,000 units or more get wholesale pricing, a dedicated rep and reorder scheduling.

How long does custom toy packaging take?

Quotes come back within one business day. Production takes 7 to 14 business days after you approve the digital proof, and shipping is free.

Can you help with the design?

Yes. Design help is free. We can work from your artwork, set it on a dieline sized to your toy, or design the box from your brand files.

What warnings need to be on a toy box?

Children's toys sold in the U.S. generally need a tracking label, the country of origin and the producer's name and address. A choking hazard warning is needed when a toy for ages 3 to 6 contains small parts. See our labeling guide for the citations.
