Custom printed hang tags are cards that attach to a product with string, a loop or a plastic fastener and carry your brand, size, price or care information. TBPB prints them with no minimum order, and a written quote for the same specs gets beaten under our price-beat guarantee.
Choosing a card stock
Thickness decides how a tag feels. Light stock around 14 pt feels flimsy on a heavy coat; a 16 to 18 pt card holds its shape and reads as a deliberate part of the garment. In metric terms, 300 to 350 gsm board is the common range for tags. Uncoated stock gives a natural, writable surface, which is good if you hand-write sizes or batch numbers. Coated stock prints colour more sharply. Kraft board looks earthy and works well with one-colour print, though bright colours print duller on it.
Shape, hole and string
A rectangle is the default, but die-cut shapes, rounded corners or a cut-out logo make a tag recognisable. Keep fine detail away from corners, which wear first. Put the hole centred about a quarter inch in from the edge, so the string does not tear through the board. The usual string choices are cotton cord, waxed cord, elastic loop or a plastic barb for apparel. Check that the string looks right on the actual garment before you order, because a thick cord can overpower a delicate knit.
What to print on both sides
The front carries the brand, usually the logo and little else. The back is the working side: size, style number, price, fibre content, care instructions or a barcode. For apparel, rules on fibre content and care labelling apply in the US, and those are your responsibility to meet; a hang tag does not replace a sewn-in care label. Leave a blank, clean area for a barcode sticker or a price label so staff are not covering up your artwork.
Finish options
Matte lamination suits a quiet brand. Spot UV on the logo adds a glossy highlight that catches the eye on a rail. Foil stamping works nicely on a dark tag. Embossing gives texture but needs a stock thick enough to hold it. Double-thick tags, two cards laminated together, give a heavy, luxurious feel for premium goods.
Where tags end and packaging begins
A tag identifies a product, but it does not protect it. Pair tags with printed custom tissue paper, a belly band or a header card if the item hangs on a peg. Browse more in the custom retail packaging range.
Mind the reading height too. On a garment rail the tag swings and hangs at an angle, so a long line of small text becomes hard to read. Keep the brand name large, set the price and size in a clear sans serif at a comfortable point size, and run a quick print test on plain paper at actual size before approving the final file.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order for custom hang tags?
No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order a handful of tags for a sample range or thousands for a season. Quantity changes the quote and production method, but it does not block the order.
What thickness should hang tags be?
About 16 to 18 pt, or 300 to 350 gsm, suits most apparel. Lighter stock feels thin on heavy fabrics. Double-thick tags laminated together feel heavy and premium. We confirm the stock once we know the product and finish.
Where should the hole go on a hang tag?
Put it centred and roughly a quarter inch in from the edge, so the string does not tear through the board. The hole size should match the cord or fastener you plan to use. We can place it at the dieline stage.
What should go on the back of a hang tag?
Size, style number, price, fibre content, care details or a barcode. Leave a clean area for a barcode sticker. A hang tag does not replace legally required sewn-in labels, so confirm your labelling duties separately.
Can I get a custom shape for my tags?
Yes. We can die-cut custom shapes or rounded corners. Keep fine detail away from the corners, which wear first, and send the outline as vector artwork. A simple shape usually reads better than a complicated one.
Can you beat a quote I already have?
Yes. Send a written quote for the same size, stock and finish and TBPB will beat it. That is our price-beat guarantee, and it applies to custom printed hang tags.
