Custom Lip Liner Boxes

A lip liner box is a slim folding carton sized to a pencil, most often a straight tuck end with a hang tab for peg display. TBPB makes them custom with no minimum order, and if you bring a written quote for the same specs, we will beat it.

Sizing a box around a pencil

The number that matters is the inside length. A wooden lip liner runs roughly five and a half inches long and a third of an inch across, while a twist-up or retractable liner is shorter and fatter, closer to four and three-quarter inches by half an inch. Add about an eighth of an inch to the pencil length so the tuck closes without pressing on the cap and the pencil does not slide. Cartons this narrow are unforgiving, because a sixteenth of an inch of error shows up as a bulge or a rattle. That is why we ask for a real pencil, or at least its exact length and diameter, rather than a guess.

Tuck style, hang tab and the shade wall

A liner usually sells beside twenty others in a shade wall, so the box has one job beyond protection: show the shade name and your brand from arm’s length. A straight tuck end keeps the front panel clean for that. Add a hang tab if the retailer uses pegs, and make sure the hole sits where the carton balances so it hangs square. If you ship direct to customers, skip the tab and use a straight tuck end carton with the shade printed on the end panel, which makes stock easy to find in a drawer. Board and finishes for a small carton

Folding carton paperboard in the 16 to 18 pt range is the usual starting point for a pencil box. It holds a crisp edge on a narrow panel and still folds cleanly. Print runs in CMYK, with Pantone matching if your brand color has to be exact. Soft-touch lamination gives a velvety feel, and foil stamping on the logo catches light on the shelf. Spot UV works well for a shade name on a dark carton. Keep in mind that heavy coverage of foil or deep dark flood colors shows scuffs more than lighter, matte designs.

Inner sleeve and when another format suits you better

If the pencil rattles, a small paperboard sleeve or divider inside stops it moving.
