A lip liner box is a small folding carton, a straight tuck end or a reverse tuck, sized to a pencil: a wooden lip liner is about 5.5 inches long and a third of an inch across, a retractable or twist up liner about 4.75 inches long and half an inch across. We make them in 16 to 18 point SBS board with a full color print, foil and soft touch finishes, a hang tab for peg display, and an optional paperboard sleeve inside that stops the pencil rattling, in any quantity and with no minimum order. The number that matters is the inside length: pencil length plus an eighth of an inch, so the tuck closes without pressing on the cap and the pencil does not slide.
A lip liner sells beside twenty others in a shade wall, so the box has one job beyond protection: read the shade name and the brand from arm’s length, and stay square on the peg while it does.

Structure and board
A straight tuck end box, where both end flaps tuck the same way, is the standard for a single pencil and takes a hang tab on the top flap. A reverse tuck, where the flaps tuck opposite ways, opens more easily for a twist up liner sold off a counter. 16 point SBS is enough for a single pencil; 18 point for duos and sets. A thin paperboard sleeve or a die-cut collar inside holds the pencil centered so it does not rattle, which matters on a long thin box more than on any other.
Print and finish
Full color CMYK on white SBS, with the shade name on the front and both ends so it reads on the peg and in a drawer. Soft touch lamination suits matte lip lines; gloss suits high shine. Foil stamping on the logo, a spot UV shade swatch, or a die-cut window along the front that shows the pencil color. Add a barcode panel on the back and a batch code space on the base flap. For shade ranges we run the shared artwork once and change the shade panel per version.
Shade ranges and small runs
Lip lines launch in ranges of 6 to 24 shades and not every shade sells at the same rate. No minimum order means each shade can be printed to its own forecast rather than to a common number, and a new shade can be added later on the same dieline without reprinting the range.
In short
What to send us: the pencil type and its length and diameter, the number of shades, whether it hangs or sits, and the finish. What you get back: a box sized with an eighth of an inch to spare, a tuck style and hang tab recommendation, an inner sleeve if the pencil needs it, one dieline for the whole range, and a physical sample. What it costs you to start: nothing. Free design, free dieline, free samples, no minimum order.
Lip liner box questions
What size box does a lip liner need?
A wooden lip liner about 5.5 inches long needs a box 5.625 inches long inside and about half an inch square. A retractable liner about 4.75 inches long needs 4.875 inches. Add an eighth of an inch to the pencil length so the tuck closes without pressing on the cap.
How do I stop the pencil rattling in the box?
A thin paperboard sleeve or a die-cut collar inside the carton holds the pencil centered. On a long thin box it makes the difference between a product that feels finished and one that sounds loose.
Straight tuck or reverse tuck for a lip liner box?
Straight tuck end for a single pencil on a peg; it takes a hang tab cleanly. Reverse tuck for a twist up liner sold off a counter; it opens more easily. Both use 16 point SBS for a single pencil, 18 point for duos and sets.
Can I print a range of shades on one order?
Yes. The shared artwork runs once on one dieline and the shade panel changes per version, so each shade prints to its own quantity and new shades are added later without reprinting the range.
Is there a minimum order?
No. A hundred boxes for a new shade or a full range run. Free design and dieline, free samples to fit your pencil, and a printed proof before the run.
No minimum order. One or a full run. Free design and dieline, and a printed proof before production. Free samples so you can fit your own pencil in a sample before you commit. Price match: send a written quote for the same size, board, print and quantity and we will beat it.
