Why length is the whole problem

A 24 inch bundle does not fit in a 12 inch box, and folding hair to squeeze it in leaves a kink that customers notice the moment they open it. Most hair extension boxes are therefore long and shallow, with the bundle lying flat or in a loose wave. Measure the longest bundle you sell, then decide whether you want it flat, gently looped, or wrapped around a card. That decision sets the box length, width and depth.

If you sell several lengths, it pays to standardize. Many hair brands run one box in two or three lengths, and print the length on a label or a colored band so a single artwork serves the line. That keeps reorders simple and makes shelf and warehouse picking quicker.

Sizing and fit

Measure the hair as it will be packed: length, width of the weft or bundle at the thickest point, and the stack height if you pack several wefts in one box. Add roughly 1/8 inch of clearance per side, and add depth if the bundles are thick or if you include a comb, a care card or a satin bag. For clip-in sets, the number of pieces and their width drives the box more than the length does.

Think about the window early. A clear film window shows the color and texture, which matters because shoppers buy hair by looking. Place it where the most attractive part of the bundle sits, and keep the artwork around it clean so the hair is the center of attention.

Board and finish

Folding carton paperboard in the 16 to 24 pt range holds a bundle without bowing, and a thicker board helps long boxes stay straight on a shelf or in a mailer. Kraft gives a natural, earthy look, while a white board with a soft-touch finish gives the salon-quality feel that many hair brands want. Gold and rose gold foil are popular on logos.
