What the shape costs you in space
A heart is a shape that wastes room. The point at the bottom and the lobes at the top mean the usable inside is smaller than the outside suggests, and an insert has to be cut to match. If the box holds chocolates, assume a bit less content area than a square box of the same width, and plan a tray with heart-friendly cavities, or place round truffles in the center and fill the gaps with paper shred. The shape also uses more board per box than a rectangle, which is a real consideration for large orders.

Getting the edges right
The curve of a heart exposes every flaw in a wrap. If the paper is pulled even slightly unevenly around the lobes, you see puckers at the cleft, and if the lid and base are not tuned together the lid sits crooked. A well-made rigid heart has a lid that drops in and seats evenly all around. That tolerance is why we recommend a sample before a large run, and why we keep the heart outline simple rather than adding sharp, narrow points that are hard to wrap cleanly.
Food contact and labeling
