Magnetic Closure Gift Boxes

Magnetic closure gift boxes are rigid boxes whose lid shuts on hidden magnets, so it closes with a clean click and no ribbon or clasp. They suit jewelry, electronics, beauty sets, apparel and gift hampers. TBPB builds them custom, to your size and artwork, with no minimum order and inserts cut to the product.

Shipping and Turnaround

Standard production runs 7 to 14 business days, depending on the box style, print method, and finishing you choose, a simple kraft mailer moves faster than a box with foil stamping or spot UV. Need it sooner? We handle rush requests case by case, so email us your deadline before you place the order and we’ll tell you straight whether we can hit it.

Shipping is free on every order, in the United States and internationally. We ship with FedEx, UPS, USPS or DHL depending on your location and order size, and you’ll get a tracking number as soon as your order leaves our facility.

A magnetic closure gift box is a rigid box with magnets hidden under the paper wrap of the lid and base, so the lid snaps shut without a clasp, ribbon or tape. TBPB builds them custom with no minimum order, and a written quote for the same specs gets beaten.

Three common magnetic constructions

The word magnetic describes the closure, not the box shape, and three shapes are common. A lid-and-base box has a lift-off lid that seats on the base with a magnet at the rim. A flap box has a front flap that folds over and snaps shut on the front panel, which is the familiar gift-set look. A hinged cover box opens like a book, which we cover in book style rigid boxes. Each feels different in the hand, so it helps to decide how you want the unboxing to begin before you decide the size.

What magnetic boxes hold well

Magnetic gift boxes work for jewelry sets, watches, headphones, skincare and fragrance sets, apparel such as a scarf or a pair of socks, and curated hampers. Items up to a moderate weight are fine. For heavy glass or ceramics, choose a thicker board and a firm insert, or consider a separate-lid two piece box, which supports weight better because the lid does not rely on the magnet to hold anything together.

Sizing the box and the insert

Lay the product out in its final position. Measure the footprint, add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side, then add the insert depth and any tissue or card. Flap boxes need extra height for the flap fold, and lid-and-base boxes need a lip so the lid seats flush. We calculate those in the dieline. An insert holds the product still: foam or EVA cut-outs for fragile pieces, a paperboard tray for a stack of items, or a satin-wrapped board. See our custom foam inserts for fitted layouts.

Board, paper and print choices

  • Rigid greyboard or chipboard, typically 1.5 to 3 mm, wrapped in printed paper.
  • Printed wrap in CMYK or Pantone-matched color, or uncoated specialty paper.
  • Matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination.
  • Foil stamping, embossing, debossing and spot UV.
  • Printed or colored interior paper, satin lining, foam or board inserts.
  • Magnet size and strength chosen for the lid weight.

The magnet is a detail that makes or breaks the box. Too weak and the lid pops open when the box is picked up; too strong and the customer needs two hands. Telling us what goes in the box lets us size it properly.

Why a sample is worth the wait

Magnetic boxes are judged by touch. Two boxes with identical dimensions can feel completely different depending on board thickness, the wrap paper and the magnet position. Because TBPB has no minimum order, you can order one finished sample, close it fifty times, and drop your product in. Look at how the lid seats, whether it drags on the base, and whether the corner wrap lies flat. If something is off, we change the dieline before it becomes a production problem.

Shipping and when to choose something else

Rigid boxes arrive assembled, so they take space in storage and freight. If you ship in volume or need to cut that space, a collapsible rigid format or a folding carton may be the practical choice. A magnetic box is also not a shipping box. Pack it inside a mailer or a corrugated carton when it travels. Browse more gift styles in our custom gift boxes category.

To begin, send the product dimensions and the quantity, even a single box, and TBPB will draw the dieline and quote it.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What is a magnetic closure gift box?

It is a rigid gift box with small magnets hidden in the lid and base, so the lid shuts with a clean click. There is no visible clasp or ribbon. Common shapes are lid-and-base, front-flap and hinged-cover styles.

  2. Is there a minimum order for magnetic gift boxes?

No. TBPB has no minimum order. You can order a single magnetic box as a sample or order a full run for a launch. Board, magnet and print standards stay the same.

  3. How strong are the magnets?

Magnet size is matched to the lid and the product weight, so the lid stays closed when the box is lifted but still opens with one hand. If you tell us the product weight we choose accordingly.

  4. How do I size a magnetic gift box?

Measure the product as it will sit, add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side, then add insert depth and tissue or card thickness. Flap boxes need extra height for the fold. Send the product dimensions and we draw the dieline.

  5. Can magnetic boxes hold heavy products?

They suit moderate weights. For heavy items, use thicker board and a firm insert, or choose a two piece box with a separate lid, which does not rely on the magnet to carry weight.

  6. Can I ship in a magnetic gift box directly?

It is better not to. Rigid boxes are made for presentation, not postal handling. Pack them inside a corrugated carton or a mailer so corners and print survive transit.

Why Choose Magnetic Closure Gift Boxes?

Magnetic closure gift boxes shut with a quiet click, which is why jewelry, tech and beauty brands favor them. Hidden magnets under the paper wrap do the work, so the box looks clean and the lid stays shut. TBPB builds them as lid-and-base boxes, front-flap boxes and hinged covers, with fitted inserts, foil, embossing and soft-touch lamination. There is no minimum order, so you can test a single box before planning a larger run.

What Makes Magnetic Closure Gift Boxes Stand Out?

Start with what goes inside and how heavy it is. Light items sit well under a magnetic flap, while heavier ones need thicker board and a firm insert. Choose the shape by the unboxing you want: a front flap for a classic gift look, a lid-and-base for a lift-off reveal. Decide on the insert before the outer size, because it sets the depth. Soft-touch lamination with a foil logo is the safe, refined combination. If you plan to ship the boxes, add an outer carton to the plan.
