Why a rigid box feels heavy in the hand
Board thickness does most of the work. Rigid gift boxes are usually built from greyboard between 1.5 and 3 mm, and you notice the difference the moment someone lifts one. At 1.5 mm the walls give slightly under a thumb. At 2 to 3 mm they do not, and the lid settles shut with a slow cushion of air instead of a click. Wrap paper, foil and lamination all help, but they sit on top of that structure. They cannot replace it.
Four structures and what each is good at
- Lid and base: two pieces, the most forgiving to make and the easiest to stack. Good for candles, apparel and heavier items.

The insert decides whether it feels designed
A product seated in a cut-out at the right depth, with a thumb notch to lift it out, looks considered. A product sliding around in tissue does not, however good the outer box is. We cut inserts from board, molded pulp or foam, and for odd shapes or delicate pieces a custom foam insert holds everything still.
Wrap, print and where rigid is the wrong call
The wrap paper can be printed in CMYK or matched to a Pantone color, then finished with matte or gloss coating, soft-touch lamination, spot UV, foil stamping or embossing. One restrained foil mark on a plain wrap often looks richer than full coverage print. Rigid boxes do cost more to make than folding cartons and they arrive assembled, so they take shipping space. If you only need shelf appeal for a light product, a folding carton may be the smarter choice. If the box is the gift, rigid is worth it.
Sizing, proofs and ordering one or many
Measure the product at its widest, longest and tallest points, then give us those three numbers plus anything that goes in with it, such as a card, tissue or a ribbon pull. We add the insert thickness and a small clearance to calculate the inner size, then draw a flat dieline so you can see exactly where each fold, panel and finish falls before anything is cut. Because there is no minimum order, you can order a single box to check fit in your hand, then place the full run once you are happy. Many buyers do exactly that for a retail launch or a client pitch, where one wrong dimension on a thousand boxes would be an expensive mistake.

Can rigid gift boxes be shipped as they are?
They can, but they are not built for it. Rigid walls dent at the corners if a parcel is dropped. Most brands ship them inside a corrugated mailer or a mailer box with a little void fill, and use the rigid box as the unboxing layer.
Can you match my brand colors and add foil?
