There are several ways to get glitter
The word glitter covers a few different finishes, and they behave differently. Glitter-textured paper has sparkle particles bonded into the sheet itself. Glitter or holographic film laminated over the printed board gives a sparkle that looks even across the surface. Metallic foil, applied by hot stamping, gives a mirror shine in a defined shape such as a logo, a pattern or a border. Spot UV can add a raised, glossy highlight to flat colour. Each suits a different look: all-over sparkle, controlled accents or a subtle shimmer.
The point is to decide which effect you mean before the dieline is drawn, because the technique affects cost, fold behaviour and how the colour comes out. Ask for a sample if you are not sure. A screen preview never shows how the sparkle moves in real light.
Practical limits of glitter
Loose or textured glitter can shed, mark clothing and show wear at the edges of a fold, particularly on a tuck flap. Laminated and foiled finishes shed less, because the sparkle is sealed under a film or bonded to the surface. If your box will be handled often, or stored near food or skincare, ask for a sealed finish rather than a loose texture. For anything touching skin or food, a liner or inner wrapper is wise. Sizing, board and structure
Glitter is a finish, not a shape, so the box is sized like any other carton: measure the product, add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side, and choose the style that suits it, such as tuck-top, lidded or sleeve. Folding carton paperboard in the 16 to 24 pt range holds most glitter finishes well. Film lamination adds a little stiffness. Heavier gifts may call for a rigid wrap, though sparkle finishes on rigid board are made differently and should be discussed first.

If you want sparkle on only part of the box, foil gives sharper edges than a glitter texture can.
