How a pillow box is built, and what it carries
A pillow box is made from a single flat sheet of paperboard that curves into a pillow shape, with a seam along the back and the ends closed by locking tabs. That construction suits light items: soap bars, candy, jewelry, hair accessories, small gifts, cards and flat cosmetics. It does not suit anything heavy, since the curved sides are not built to take weight. If you plan to hold more than a few ounces, a tuck top box is a stronger choice, and the curved style also makes the box harder to stack on a shelf.

A practical caution on weight and hanging. The ends of a pillow box are the weakest point, since they are folded closed rather than glued flat. Shaking a packed sample is the fastest test: if the product rattles or the ends pop, the box needs a tighter fit or a different style. For gift sets, a short strip of tissue under the product also takes up slack without hiding the window view.
Board, film and print
Folding carton paperboard in the 16 to 24 pt range, or a 350 gsm class SBS, is the standard material. Kraft board gives a natural look. The window film is clear plastic, normally PET, and can be glossy or anti-glare. Print the outside in CMYK or Pantone-matched colors, and finish with matte or gloss aqueous coating. A spot UV layer on the logo draws the eye toward the window without covering it. A thin hang hole or a header can be added when the box needs to hang from a peg.
