How a counter display box actually works
Most counter displays are a single piece of folded paperboard. The front panel is cut lower than the back, so the product is visible and reachable, while the back panel stands tall to carry your logo and a one-line claim. Some designs add a tray base that you ship flat and pop open at the store. Others arrive as a shipper carton that tears open into a display, so the retail staff never have to assemble anything.
The footprint matters more than most buyers expect. Pharmacy tills are cramped. A unit wider than about the width of your hand often gets moved to a back shelf by the first employee who needs the space. Keep the base small, make the unit tall rather than wide, and it stays where you put it.
What it holds, and what it should not
These boxes are built for light, small items: single-serve sachets, tubes of lip balm or hand cream, blister packs, pocket-size sanitizer, test strips, pill organisers. Paperboard does not take weight well, so a unit holding glass droppers or full-size bottles needs a heavier board and a stiffer tray, and at that point a retail display box built for shelf weight is usually the better call.
If your product is a bottle of capsules rather than loose small items, the primary carton is a different job. Look at vitamins and supplements packaging for the unit that goes on the shelf, then design the counter display around it.
Sizing the unit
Stack your product in the arrangement you want, two rows deep or three, and measure the block. Add about 1/8 inch of clearance on each side so items slide out without catching. Then decide how many units the display should hold. Twelve small tubes make a sensible count for a till. Forty makes the unit too heavy to carry and too tall to look tidy.
Send us those numbers and we draw the dieline to match, including the front cut-out height, which is the detail people forget. Too low and the product tips right out. Too high and nothing is visible. We would rather settle that on a flat drawing than after a few hundred units are printed.
