What actually sets the price of a mylar bag?
Five things do most of the work: how much film the bag uses, how many layers that film has, how much of it is printed, what is built into the bag, and how many you order. Everything else on a quote is small by comparison.
Size comes first because film is sold by the area. A bag that is 6 inches wide and 9 inches tall with a 3 inch bottom gusset uses noticeably more material than a 4 by 6 flat pouch, and the gap shows up on every unit. Film structure is next. Most mylar bags are a laminate with a metalized PET layer for the barrier and a heat-seal layer on the inside, and a thicker or additional layer adds protection and adds cost.
How do features change the cost?
Each feature adds material, a process step, or both. A press-to-close zipper, a tear notch, a hang hole, a clear window and a rounded corner are all small on their own. Stacked on one bag they add up, and they add up on every piece you order.
The practical rule is to keep what the product needs and cut the rest. A tear notch is cheap and useful. A window helps when buyers want to see the product, and it costs you barrier, because the clear area lets light in. Start by sizing the bag to the product instead of to a round number. If a fill needs a 5 by 8 inch bag, a 6 by 9 wastes film and shelf space for no benefit. Fit the barrier to the contents next: a snack that is eaten within weeks does not need the same protection as a product that sits for a year.
Then consolidate. Two designs ordered together can share setup that two separate orders would not. And if you are comparing a single-use closure against a resealable zipper, think about how the customer actually uses the bag.
