What a child-resistant joint package actually is
A pre-roll is a thin, fragile cone, and it gets crushed in a pocket or a delivery bag more often than anyone admits. So the package has two jobs: keep the joint intact and keep it away from children. The second job is where buyers get confused. Child-resistant status comes from testing the finished package, closure included, under the rules that apply in your state. A printed paperboard carton on its own does not earn it. In practice the carton is the branded shell, and the certified tube, pouch or locking insert inside it carries the child-resistant function.

Sizing the carton around the tube
Measure the outside length and the widest diameter of the tube, cap included. Add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side for a folding carton. Too tight and the tube scuffs the printing every time it slides out; too loose and it rattles. For multipacks, decide the layout first. Board, structure and print
Most single and multi-pack cartons are folding carton paperboard, usually 16 to 24 pt, which prints sharply and folds flat for storage. If you want a heavier shelf feel, a rigid chipboard wrap in the 1.5 to 3 mm range gives the box real weight, though it does not ship flat. For the closure you can use a tuck top carton, a straight tuck end carton, or a sleeve that slides over a tray.
