Fit is everything with glass
A bottle that rattles in its box will chip, and a box that is too tight will tear when the bottle goes in. Measure the bottle at its widest point, usually the shoulder or the label band, and its full height including the cap or cork. For a folding carton, add about 1/8 inch of clearance per side so it slides in without a fight. Odd shapes need more thought. A Bordeaux bottle, a squat spirits flask and a tall dropper bottle all behave differently, so send the actual bottle dimensions rather than the volume.
If you ship a few different sizes, tell us. Sometimes one carton with two insert sizes is more practical than two separate cartons. Also tell us how the bottle is closed. A tall cork or a pump dropper changes the inside height, and a box that clears the glass but crushes the dropper tip is a common, avoidable miss.
Insert options that hold the bottle
The insert does the protecting. A paperboard or corrugated cradle works for most single bottles and recycles with the box. Die-cut foam holds a bottle more firmly and suits heavier glass or shipments that will be dropped by couriers. For multi-bottle gift sets, a divider keeps necks from knocking into each other.
