Custom popcorn boxes are printed paperboard cartons made to hold a bag or portion of popcorn, used for cinemas, events, parties and snack brands. You choose a style, size it to the portion, and send your artwork. We make them with no minimum order, so one box for a party works as well as a pallet for a launch.

Who buys custom popcorn boxes and for what?
Four groups account for most orders. Cinemas and event venues want a printed serving box that looks the same on every shelf and every tray. Gourmet popcorn brands use the box as retail packaging and need it to carry a brand and a shelf story. Party and wedding planners order small runs as favors with a name or date printed on them. Corporate teams give them out at events with a logo.
The needs differ. A concession box is handled by many hands in a hurry, so it needs strong walls and a simple closure. A retail box has to look good on a shelf for weeks, and a favor box mainly has to look good in a photo.
Which popcorn box style should I pick?
| Style | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Tuck-top carton | Retail and favors | Closure is simple but not tamper-evident |
| Gable box with handle | Takeaway and events | Needs more flat area for printing |
| Window box | Showing the product | A film window changes how the box recycles |
| Open tray or sleeve | Fast serving | Little protection and no closure |
We cover gable styles in our gable box article and takeaway styles in takeout boxes. For the structures we list, see custom food boxes, kraft food boxes and custom food boxes. Ask us to confirm the exact style and size you need.
How do I size a popcorn box?
Measure what actually goes in. For a retail bag, that is the filled and sealed bag, pressed lightly. For a served portion, it is the container or liner the popcorn sits in. Add a small allowance, in total and not per side, so it slides in without wedging.
A worked example: a sealed popcorn bag measures 6 inches wide, 3 inches deep and 9 inches tall when filled. Add 1/4 inch in total to each dimension and the inside size is 6.25 x 3.25 x 9.25 inches. If your bag puffs when it is sealed, measure it after sealing, not when flat. Our mailer box sizes guide explains why inside size, not outside, is the number you order by.
Does popcorn need a liner or bag inside the box?
Often, yes. Butter, oil and caramel can mark paperboard, and a liner keeps the box clean on the outside as well as keeping the food off the board. A sealed inner bag also keeps popcorn crisp for longer. The liner choice and its material are a food safety question for your product. Check with your food safety adviser. We print on the box, and the contact decision stays with you.
Kraft or white board for popcorn?
Kraft gives a warm, farmers-market look that suits gourmet and craft popcorn brands. White board gives bright, accurate color for movie-night designs with strong reds and yellows. Neither changes how well the box holds the popcorn. The choice is about the artwork, so decide it by looking at your design in both.
What should I know about artwork for events and favors?
Keep the personal details on a panel you can change, such as the front or a single label area, so a name, date or logo can be swapped without redrawing the whole box. Put the important text away from folds and glue seams, and leave the inside plain unless it matters to you. If you are printing a short run for a date that cannot move, approve the dieline early and order one box first to check the print and fit. Once that box is right, order the rest. We do not recommend ordering a full event quantity before you have held a sample in your hand.
For regular snack sales, the same discipline applies at larger scale: test one, fix what is wrong, then reorder in volume. That is the practical benefit of having no minimum order. You pay to learn on one box, not on a thousand.
Questions buyers ask
Is there a minimum order for custom popcorn boxes?
No. We make custom popcorn boxes with no minimum order, so you can order a single box to check the size and print, or thousands for an event, a cinema or a retail launch. Unit cost is higher on small runs and drops as quantity grows.
What size popcorn box should I order?
Size it to what goes inside. Measure the filled bag or the portion you serve, then add about 1/8 to 1/4 inch in total to each dimension. A bag measuring 6 x 3 x 9 inches fits a 6.25 x 3.25 x 9.25 inch inside size.
Does popcorn go straight into the box?
Often not. Buttered or caramel popcorn is oily and sweet, so many sellers put it in a bag or liner first. Check with your food safety adviser about contact surfaces and liners for your product, because that decision is yours to make.
Can I order a few boxes for a party or wedding?
Yes. Because there is no minimum order, you can order a small party run of 20 or 30 as easily as a retail run. Send the size and the quantity and we return a dieline so you can approve the print first.
What popcorn box styles do you make?
Common choices are a tuck-top carton, a gable box with a handle, a window box and a tray style. Ask us to confirm the exact structure and size for your spec, and we will send a dieline to check.
How do I get a quote and dieline?
Send the portion size, the style you like and the quantity, even one, through the quote form. We reply with a dieline and a written quote, and we beat any written quote for the same specs.
How to order
Send the portion size, your preferred style and the quantity through the quote form. A single box counts as an order, and there is no minimum. We return a dieline in your size so you can approve the print, and a written quote. If you hold a written quote for the same specs, we beat it. Design help, samples and shipping are free.
