Vape and e-liquid packaging has to clear a bar most packaging does not: it has to be child resistant by law, carry the right warnings, and still look like a brand worth buying. E-liquid bottles, disposable vapes, cartridges, and pods each need a different box, and the rules that apply are set by federal agencies, not by your printer. This guide covers the formats, what the packaging has to do to be compliant, and how to get it made with no minimum order. It is general information about packaging, not legal advice, and the responsibility for meeting every regulation sits with your brand.
The vape and e-liquid packaging formats
E-liquid bottle boxes
E-liquid sells in small glass or plastic dropper bottles, usually 30ml, 60ml, or 100ml, and the box protects the bottle while carrying the branding and the required warnings. We build tuck end and seal end cartons sized to your bottle with an optional insert so the dropper does not rattle, and we can add a child resistant closure where the packaging itself needs to restrict access. See our dropper bottle boxes for the bottle carton, and our child resistant mylar bags where a pouch format fits.
Disposable vape boxes
Disposables are the fastest moving format, and the box is often the only branding since the device is sealed. We build printed tuck end and rigid boxes sized to the device, with a hang hole for peg display, a window to show the color, and finishes that stand out in a crowded case. The panel has to fit the nicotine warning along with the flavor and strength, so we lay it out so branding and the required text both fit.
Cartridge and pod boxes
Cartridges and pods are small, so the box is precise work. We build slim cartons and blister style boxes with an insert or tray that holds one or several units in place, sized to the exact cartridge, with room for the warning and lot information. For multipacks we size the tray to your count so nothing shifts.
Starter kit and device boxes
A vape device or starter kit is a premium purchase, so the box carries the unboxing. We build two piece rigid boxes and magnetic closure boxes with a foam or molded insert that seats the device, the pods, the charger, and the manual, with finishes like soft touch, foil, and spot gloss. See our rigid boxes for the premium build.
The rules that decide your vape packaging
This is where vape packaging is different from any other product, because two federal agencies set requirements and your box has to satisfy both. Treat the following as general information and verify every requirement with qualified counsel before you print, because the responsibility is your brand's.
Child resistant packaging (CPSC)
The Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act, in effect since July 26, 2016, requires any liquid nicotine container sold in the United States to be in child resistant packaging that meets 16 CFR 1700.15. The Consumer Product Safety Commission enforces the packaging rule, and note that the CPSC regulates the packaging, not the nicotine itself. We can build certified child resistant closures for the primary container or the outer box where your product needs them, but the certification and testing responsibility is your brand's. See our child resistant mylar bags for a pouch option.
FDA rules and the nicotine warning
Separately, the FDA Center for Tobacco Products regulates the product. A new vape product type generally requires a Premarket Tobacco Product Application, and only a product with a marketing granted order may be sold. The FDA also requires the nicotine warning statement, which reads that the product contains nicotine and that nicotine is an addictive chemical, with specific rules on size, at least 30 percent of the principal display panel, and typeface. We print your box to the approved artwork you supply, but defining and verifying the warning, the application status, and any country of origin marking is your brand's responsibility.
Materials, print, and finishes
For most vape and e-liquid boxes an 18pt to 24pt SBS folding carton gives a clean print surface with enough body, while a wrapped rigid box suits a premium device kit. Full color digital print handles short runs with no plate cost, and offset drops the per unit price at volume. Finishes that stand out in a vape case include soft touch lamination, spot gloss, foil stamping, and holographic accents, and we can add a window or a hang hole. Because the warning and flavor text have to stay legible, we help lay out the panel so the required information and your branding both work.
Why brands order vape packaging from The Best Price Boxes
The vape market moves fast, flavors and SKUs change constantly, and a supplier that forces a five thousand unit minimum does not fit a brand testing a new flavor. We make vape and e-liquid packaging with no minimum order quantity, so you can launch a flavor with a small run and scale once it sells, and we quote against your current supplier and match or beat the price where the specs line up. We are the best price boxes, and on a category with this many SKUs, the per box price adds up fast. For related regulated formats see our CBD sleeve boxes, delta 8 mylar packaging, and pre roll packaging boxes, and for the wider category read the cannabis packaging guide.
Does vape and e-liquid packaging have to be child resistant?
Yes. The Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act requires liquid nicotine containers sold in the US to be in child resistant packaging meeting 16 CFR 1700.15, enforced by the CPSC. We build certified child resistant options, but the certification and testing responsibility is the brand's. This is general information, not legal advice.
What warning does the box need?
The FDA requires a nicotine warning statement, that the product contains nicotine and nicotine is an addictive chemical, with rules on size and placement, at least 30 percent of the principal display panel. We print your approved artwork, but defining and verifying the warning is the brand's responsibility.
Do you handle PMTA or FDA approval?
No. A Premarket Tobacco Product Application and any marketing order are between your brand and the FDA. We make the packaging to your approved specs. Confirm your product status with qualified counsel before ordering.
Is there a minimum order for vape packaging?
No. We make vape and e-liquid boxes with no minimum order, so you can launch a flavor with a small run and scale once it sells, at the best price.
Can you match a competitor vape box price?
Yes. Send a comparable spec and quote and we will match or beat it where we can. Beating prices on the same spec is the point of our name.
