A sleeve box is a printed band of paperboard that slides over a plain tray or around a product, held by friction or a small notch. It lets you brand a pack without printing the whole carton, and it is one of the cheapest ways to give a generic container a retail look.
When a sleeve beats a full box
Use a sleeve when the product is already neat or already in its own container: a candle in a tin, a bar of soap, a row of cookies on a tray, a jar of sauce, a deck of cards. The sleeve carries the brand, and the tray or product underneath can stay simple. Because a sleeve uses less board than a full carton, it also stores flat and costs less to ship to you.
Sleeve styles
- Open-ended sleeve. A loop with both ends open. The product shows at the ends.
- Belly band. A narrow strip across the middle, used for multipacks and gift sets.
- Sleeve with tray. A matching tray slides inside. Works as a drawer-style box.
- Cone sleeve. A cone-shaped wrap for cups and cones.
Sizing a sleeve
A sleeve should fit snugly enough to stay on, and not so tight that it tears when it slides. Allow for the board thickness on each side, which adds up when the pack has square corners. Request a sample sleeve over your real product before you commit.
Print and finish
Sleeves show off your artwork because the panels are large and uninterrupted. Matte laminate for a quiet premium look, gloss for color, uncoated kraft for a natural feel. Keep important text away from the glue seam and the fold lines.
If the sleeve goes on food, cosmetics, or another regulated product, labels and claims are the brand’s responsibility to verify.

Questions buyers ask
What is a sleeve box?
A sleeve box is a printed band of paperboard that slides over a tray or product. It brands a pack without requiring a fully printed carton.
When should I use a sleeve instead of a full box?
Use a sleeve when the product is already in its own neat container, such as a candle tin, a soap bar, or a tray of cookies.
How tight should a sleeve fit?
Snug enough to stay in place but loose enough to slide without tearing. Allow for board thickness on each side and test with a sample.
Can I order a small run of sleeve boxes?
Yes. TBPB has no minimum order.
Do sleeve boxes work for regulated products?
Yes, but labels and claims for food, cosmetics, or other regulated goods are the brand’s responsibility to confirm.
