Measure the candy or the wrapped group of pieces at its length, width and height. For a pillow box, the usable space is rounder than a rectangular carton, so a block of candy fits less snugly than a pile of loose wrapped pieces. Allow room for a little movement, because the curve uses up space in the corners.
