A custom kraft mailer box is a corrugated shipping box with a roll-over front that locks the lid without tape, and TBPB makes it to your exact size with no minimum order. Bring a written quote for the same specs and our price-beat guarantee means we beat it.
How a kraft mailer is built and how it closes
A mailer is a single piece of corrugated board, die-cut and scored, that folds into a lid, a base and a front panel. In the roll-end style, the front panel folds up and the lid tucks behind it, so the box locks shut by its own geometry. There is no tape to run out of, and the customer opens it by pulling the lid, which makes the first moment clean. Corrugated flute adds stiffness and crush resistance that a flat paperboard carton cannot match. E-flute is the usual thin choice for printed mailers, since it prints cleanly and still adds protection. B-flute is thicker and tougher.
What a kraft mailer protects, and what it does not
Kraft mailers are well suited to apparel, books, skincare sets, candles in sleeves, accessories and subscription contents. They are not a substitute for a shipper built around fragile glass or heavy items. For those, you want a thicker flute, a fitted insert, and sometimes a second outer carton. We can cut a custom insert such as our custom foam inserts to hold a product in place. If your product weighs a lot, tell us up front and we will tell you honestly whether a mailer is the right box.
Sizing a mailer so it closes properly
Measure the product after it is packed, with tissue, bags or inserts included. A mailer should hold the contents snugly so nothing shifts, but it should not need forcing, because a stuffed mailer bows the lid and the lock stops working. Leave a little head space for the lid to close flat. Remember that corrugated has real thickness, so the inside size is smaller than the outside. Give us the inside dimensions you need and we build the box around them.
Printing on brown corrugated
Kraft corrugated is textured and brown, so the print looks natural and slightly muted. A one or two colour logo on the lid is the safest, cleanest approach, and white ink gives a light logo on brown board. Full-coverage artwork is possible, though colours shift on brown and fine detail reads better on a smooth white liner. Printing the inside of the lid is a low-cost way to add a message at the unboxing moment.

When a different mailer is the better choice
The roll-end front is the most common kraft mailer closure, and it is a good default. It is not always the right one. If the product is heavy, an ear-lock or a deeper tuck can hold the lid more firmly. If the customer opens the box repeatedly, such as a subscription reusable tin, a more durable closure helps. If you ship thousands of identical parcels, think about the pack-out speed as well, since a box that folds in two motions saves labour that adds up across a week of shipping. Ask us, and we will say which closure suits your product and your packing process.
Send the packed product dimensions and quantity, even if it is one, and TBPB will draw the dieline and quote it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order for kraft mailer boxes?
No. TBPB has no minimum order on kraft mailer boxes. Order one for a prototype or ten thousand for a product launch. You see the dieline before printing, so a single test box tells you about the real fit before a large order.
Do kraft mailer boxes need tape?
Usually not. The roll-end design locks by tucking the lid behind the folded front panel, so the box stays closed on its own. Some brands add a sticker or label across the closure as a tamper indicator or a branded seal, but it is optional.
What flute should I choose for a mailer?
E-flute is the common choice for printed mailers because it is thin, prints cleanly and still protects. B-flute is thicker and more crush-resistant, which suits heavier products. Tell us the product weight and how it ships and we recommend one.
Can I print inside a kraft mailer box?
Yes. Printing the inside of the lid is a popular and effective way to add a thank-you note, a pattern or care instructions. Tell us at the quote stage so the artwork and dieline include the inside surfaces.
How do I size a mailer box?
Measure the packed product, including tissue, bags and inserts, in three directions. Then tell us the inside dimensions you need. Corrugated has real wall thickness, so we build the outside size from your inside size, and we confirm it on the dieline.
Are kraft mailer boxes recyclable?
Plain kraft corrugated is paper-based and generally accepted in curbside cardboard recycling. Heavy coatings, plastic inserts and laminations can change that. We do not make certification claims for individual orders, so ask us if you need a specific recyclability statement.
