A stand up pouch is a flexible bag with a gusseted bottom panel that opens out so the bag stands upright on its own. That shelf presence, plus a strong barrier and a resealable zipper, is why it has largely replaced boxes and cans for coffee, snacks, and many food and supplement products.
Why the gusset matters
The bottom gusset is what lets the pouch stand and hold volume. Fill it and it takes a stable, boxy shape that faces the customer on a shelf, unlike a flat pouch that lies down.
Barrier and freshness
Most stand up pouches use a mylar or foil layer that blocks light, oxygen, and moisture, and many add a resealable zipper and a degassing valve for coffee. That keeps the contents fresh after opening. Learn more about what mylar bags are.
