Sizing a box for a slider
A slider is a small object with a lot of variation. A 2.5 inch brioche bun, a 3 inch potato roll and a stacked double with a skewer need three different boxes. Measure the assembled burger at its widest, then its height with the top bun on, and add about 1/4 inch of headroom so the lid does not squash the stack. Sauce and toppings compress in transit, so a box that feels roomy when empty is often exactly right when the burger is inside.
Fit matters more than people expect. A loose box lets the patty slide and the toppings land on one side of the bun by the time it reaches the customer.
Heat, steam and grease
This is the real design problem for any food carton. A hot burger releases steam, and a sealed box traps it, which turns the bottom bun soggy in minutes. Small vent holes or slits let steam escape. Grease is the other enemy: it will soak through plain paperboard and stain the print. Food-grade paperboard with a grease-resistant coating or a liner handles the worst of it, and a sheet of wax-free paper inside keeps the burger separate from the board. The two common options are a one-piece folding carton with a tuck or lock closure, and a clamshell-style box with a hinged lid. What size is a mini burger box?
There is no single standard. Sliders vary with bun size, so we size the box to your actual burger. Measure the widest point and the height with the top bun on, then add about 1/4 inch of headroom. We draw the dieline from those numbers.
How do I stop the bun getting soggy?
Steam is the cause. Vent holes or slits let it escape, and a liner paper separates the burger from the board. Avoid sealing hot food in a fully closed box. We can add vents to the dieline wherever your design allows.
Are the boxes grease resistant?
They can be. Food-grade paperboard with a grease-resistant coating or liner holds up to burger grease much better than plain board. Heavy, fatty burgers need more protection, so tell us how you cook and we will suggest options.
Can I print my logo on a kraft box?
Yes. Kraft board prints well with one or two ink colors, which gives a natural look and keeps ink coverage low. Full-color CMYK works better on white board. Colors look warmer and slightly darker on kraft.
Is there a minimum order for custom mini burger boxes?
No. TBPB has no minimum order, so you can order a handful of boxes to trial a menu item or a large run for a restaurant group. Send the burger size and quantity and we will draw the dieline and quote it.
Are the boxes food safe?
