Embossing and debossing are tactile finishes created by pressing the box material between two dies. Embossing raises an area of the surface so it stands up; debossing presses it in so it sinks below the surface. Both add a physical, felt detail that print alone cannot, which is why they read as premium and are hard to fake.
How it is done
A metal die and a matching counter die press the paper or board between them under pressure, forming the raised or recessed shape. It can be done blind, with no ink, or combined with foil for a raised metallic logo.
