Short answer: choose a straight tuck end (STE) box when the front face must look clean and premium, and choose a reverse tuck end (RTE) box when you want a slightly cheaper, efficient carton and the back is less important. Both are folding cartons; the difference is which way the top and bottom flaps tuck.

When to use a straight tuck end

On an STE box, both flaps tuck in from the back, so the front panel stays clean with no visible tuck edge, ideal when the box faces the customer on a shelf and presentation matters. Cosmetics and premium retail favor it. Related: straight tuck end boxes and what a folding carton is.

When to use a reverse tuck end

On an RTE box, the flaps tuck from opposite sides, which uses a bit less material and lays out more efficiently on the press, so it costs slightly less. The trade-off is a small tuck edge visible on the front. For cost-sensitive retail where a perfectly seamless front is not critical, RTE is the practical pick. See reverse tuck end boxes.

How to decide

If the front face is your shelf presentation and must look flawless, go STE. If you are optimizing cost and the small front edge does not matter, go RTE. Both are available with no minimum, and we will work to beat your price. Browse custom boxes with no minimum order.
