Custom garment bags protect a hanging garment and carry your logo on the trip home. They are the standard finishing item for dry cleaners, bridal and formalwear, uniform suppliers and fashion retail, and they are one of the few pieces of packaging a customer keeps and reuses. There is no minimum order.

Garment bag sizes
Length is measured from the hanger opening to the bottom seam. Measure the longest garment you sell on its hanger and add three to four inches, because a hem touching the seam creases in storage.
| Length | Typical width | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| 24 in | 20 to 21 in | Shirts, blouses, folded knitwear on a hanger |
| 40 in | 21 to 24 in | Suits, jackets, coats, most dry cleaning |
| 54 in | 21 to 24 in | Dresses, longer coats, two piece suits together |
| 60 in | 24 in | Long dresses, evening wear, multi garment orders |
| 72 in | 24 in plus gusset | Bridal gowns, trains, heavy formalwear |
Anything with volume, a train, a full skirt or a padded shoulder, needs a gusset rather than a longer bag. A gusseted side gives the garment somewhere to sit without the bag pulling tight across the front, which is what causes the creasing people blame on the bag.
Choose the material
| Material | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Clear poly | Dry cleaning and delivery, where the garment needs to be identified without opening the bag | No branding surface unless you print a panel, and it traps moisture in long storage |
| Printed poly | Retail and ecommerce, where the bag is the brand impression | Print reduces visibility of the garment, so leave a window if staff need to identify it |
| Breathable non-woven | Long term storage, bridal, and anything the customer keeps | Costs more, and the softer surface reads as premium rather than utilitarian |
The moisture point matters more than most buyers expect. A garment sealed in poly for months can hold damp and mildew, particularly natural fibres. If the customer is going to store the piece rather than wear it next week, non-woven is the right answer and it is worth saying so at the counter.
Garment bag or dust bag
These get confused and they are different products. A garment bag hangs, has a hanger opening and a full length closure, and is built for suits, dresses and coats. A dust bag is a soft drawstring bag for handbags, shoes and accessories, with no hanger and no zip. If what you actually need is a drawstring dust bag rather than a hanging garment bag, say so on your quote request and we will price the right thing.
Who buys custom garment bags
- Dry cleaners and laundries. High volume, clear poly, logo printed in one color, sized to the longest item on the rail.
- Bridal and formalwear. Low volume, long lengths, gusseted, usually non-woven, and the bag is part of the purchase experience.
- Fashion retail and ecommerce. Printed poly or non-woven, because the bag travels home with the customer and gets reused.
- Uniform and workwear suppliers. Durable poly, identification window, sized to a jacket.

Frequently asked questions
What size garment bag do I need?
Measure the longest garment you sell on its hanger, from the hook to the hem, and add three to four inches. As a guide, 40 inches covers suits and jackets, 54 inches covers dresses and longer coats, and 72 inches covers bridal gowns. If the garment has volume, add a gusset rather than length.
Is there a minimum order for custom garment bags?
No. There is no minimum quantity and no minimum order fee, so a bridal boutique ordering a small run and a laundry group ordering a full production quantity are both welcome.
Clear poly, printed poly or non-woven?
Clear poly for dry cleaning and delivery, where staff need to identify the garment through the bag. Printed poly where the bag is the brand impression. Breathable non-woven for long term storage, bridal, and anything the customer will keep, because poly can trap moisture over months.
Can garment bags be printed in full color?
Yes, one color through to full color, front and back. On clear poly, remember that a heavily printed panel reduces visibility of the garment, so leave a clear window if your staff identify items on the rail.
Do I need a gusset?
Add one for anything with volume: a full skirt, a train, a padded shoulder or two garments in one bag. A gusseted side lets the garment sit without the bag pulling tight across the front, which is the usual cause of creasing.
Are garment bags breathable?
Poly is not. Non-woven is. A garment sealed in poly for months can hold damp, and natural fibres suffer most. For anything going into storage rather than straight into a wardrobe, specify non-woven.
What is the difference between a garment bag and a dust bag?
A garment bag hangs, has a hanger opening and a full length closure, and is built for suits, dresses and coats. A dust bag is a soft drawstring bag for handbags, shoes and accessories, with no hanger and no zip. Tell us which one you need on the quote request and we will price the right product.
How long does a custom garment bag order take?
Send the length, the material, the closure, the quantity and your artwork. You get a free quote on the exact specification and a free digital proof, and we will beat any written quote on the same specification.
