Mascara Boxes

Custom Mascara Boxes for Beauty Brands

A custom mascara box is a slim folding carton, usually a tuck-end box, printed with your brand and cut to fit a mascara tube and its wand. It protects the tube on the shelf and in transit and carries your shade, claims and barcode. TBPB prints mascara boxes with no minimum order, so one sample or a full launch run is a normal request.

What makes a mascara box different from other cosmetic cartons?

The shape. A mascara tube is long and narrow, so the carton is tall and slim, and a small sizing error shows. Too tight and the tube scrapes going in. Too loose and it slides, which makes the box feel cheap and lets the product rattle in shipping. The box also has to survive the front-of-shelf test: customers read the front panel from a few feet away, so shade name and product type need to be big.

How do I size a mascara box?

  1. Measure the tube at its widest point. The cap is often wider than the body.
  2. Measure the full length with the cap on.
  3. Check the shape. Some tubes are round, some are oval or faceted, and the width differs by direction.
  4. Decide how the tube sits: upright with the cap up is standard.

Worked example: a round tube 0.8 inches across the cap and 4.5 inches long. A box about 0.95 x 0.95 x 4.75 inches gives roughly a sixteenth of an inch of clearance on each side and a quarter inch above the cap. Send your real measurements and we confirm the clearance on the dieline before anything prints.

Which style fits my brand?

StyleGood forTrade-off
Tuck-end cartonMost retail launches; ships flat; quick to packPlain structure; the print does the work
Sleeve over trayGift sets, limited editionsTwo parts to pack
Rigid with magnetic lidPremium or gift-priced mascaraHeavier and costs more; stored assembled

For most small brands, the tuck-end carton is the right choice. It costs the least, takes the least storage space, and a good print makes it look as polished as a pricier box.

What should the front panel say?

Brand, product type, shade or effect name, and net quantity. Put the barcode on the back or side panel, away from folds. Keep claims plain; any claim about performance or ingredients is the brand’s to substantiate. We print the artwork you supply, and the label and regulatory copy are your responsibility, so check the rules that apply to your product and market before you finalize the file.

How do I keep print colors consistent across shades?

Pick one box size and one layout, and change the color band, shade name and a small label for each shade. It keeps the die cost down and makes the line look like a family. Print a sample first and hold it next to the tube in daylight and under store lighting. Screen colors and printed colors rarely match exactly, and black is the usual surprise.

What mistakes should I avoid?

Sizing from a supplier’s listing rather than your own tube is the most common. Ordering a full run before holding a printed sample is next. The third is putting key text on a tuck flap or fold line, where it gets cut in half. Look at the closed box from the front and top before you approve the file.

Questions buyers ask

  1. Is there a minimum order for mascara boxes?

No. You can order one box to test the fit or thousands for a launch. Most brands order a single sample with the real tube inside before committing to a run.

  2. What size is a mascara box?

It depends on your tube. Measure the widest point, usually the cap, and the full length with the cap on, then add clearance. Send the measurements and we confirm the size on the dieline.

  3. Can I use one box for all my shades?

Yes. Keep one size and layout and change the color band and shade name per shade. It keeps the die cost down and makes the range look consistent.

  4. What box style is best for a mascara launch?

A tuck-end folding carton for most launches. It ships flat and costs the least. Use a sleeve or rigid style for gift sets or premium pricing.

  5. Who writes the ingredient and claim copy?

The brand does. We print the artwork you supply. Check the rules for your product and market before finalizing the file.

  6. How do I get a quote and a dieline?

Send the tube dimensions and quantity through the quote form. We return a dieline and a price, and we beat any written quote for the same specifications.
