A custom lipstick box is a small folding carton, usually a tuck-end tube-shaped box, printed with your brand and sized to the lipstick tube inside. Brands choose it for retail shelf appeal and for protecting the tube during shipping. TBPB prints lipstick boxes with no minimum order, so a single sample or a full launch run is a normal request.

What style of lipstick box should I choose?
For most brands the tuck-end carton is the right place to start. It ships flat, it is quick to pack, and it holds a standard lipstick tube without an insert. A sleeve box slides over an inner tray and feels more gift-like, which suits limited editions and sets. A rigid box with a magnetic lid is the premium option, and it makes sense when the lipstick sells at a price that justifies the heavier packaging.
If you sell several shades, keep the box shape identical across them and change the color band or label. It keeps the dieline cost down and makes the line look like a family on the shelf. Browse the lipstick boxes we make, or the wider cosmetic packaging range.
How do I measure my lipstick tube?
- Measure the outer diameter at the widest point of the tube. Many tubes widen at the base or the cap, so check both.
- Measure the full height with the cap on.
- If the tube is not round, measure width and depth separately.
- Note any extras, such as a mirror or a brush, and if they sit in the same box.
Worked example: a round tube 0.9 inches across and 3 inches tall. A box about 1 x 1 x 3.25 inches leaves roughly a tenth of an inch around the tube and a quarter inch above the cap, which is enough for the tuck flap to close without squeezing. Send us the real dimensions and we confirm the clearance on the dieline before anything prints.
Which board and print work for lipstick packaging?
Paperboard is the standard material for a folding carton this size. A heavier board feels more premium and resists crushing in a shipping carton, but it is stiffer to fold and costs more. Print is full-color on the outside, and the inside can stay plain or carry a second pattern. If you want a particular finish such as foil, spot gloss or soft touch, ask us to confirm it for your spec, because availability depends on the board and the quantity.
One practical point on color: lipstick buyers match the box to the shade. Print a sample and hold it next to the actual tube in daylight and under store lighting before you order a large run. Screen colors and printed colors rarely match exactly.
How do lipstick boxes compare with lip balm and lip gloss boxes?
The structure is similar, but the sizes differ. Lip balm tubes are fatter and shorter, and lip gloss tubes are slim with a wand. The same tuck-end carton works for all three, with a different size. If you sell more than one product, see our lip balm boxes and lip gloss boxes for size ranges. A mixed set can use one outer sleeve over three inner cartons.
What do I have to put on the box?
Your brand, shade name, net quantity, ingredient list and any warnings. We print the artwork you supply, so the label and regulatory copy are the brand’s responsibility. Check the rules that apply to your product and your markets before you finalize the file. If you are unsure of the layout, ask for the dieline first and place your copy on it.
What mistakes cost lipstick brands the most?
Three come up again and again. The first is sizing from the product listing instead of the actual tube. Supplier specs round off, and a tenth of an inch matters on a box this small. Measure the real thing with calipers or a ruler. The second is ordering a full run before holding a printed sample. Colors shift, a tuck flap can be too tight, and a barcode can land across a fold. The third is placing the shade name where the flap hides it. Look at the closed box from the front and from the top before you approve the file.
Should the box be shipped flat or assembled?
Folding cartons ship flat, which keeps freight and storage small, and your team or fulfillment partner folds them at packing time. That is fine for hundreds or a few thousand units. If you sell at a much larger volume, ask us about pre-assembly for your spec, because the labor of folding is real. Rigid boxes arrive assembled and take up much more space, so plan your storage before you order them.
What drives the price of a lipstick box?
Size, board weight, print coverage, finishes and quantity. A plain one-color carton on a lighter board sits at the low end. Full-coverage print on heavier board with a finish sits higher. You will also see a setup cost for a new die, which spreads across the run. If a quote looks very different from another, compare the board weight, print coverage and finish line by line before you compare the totals. We beat any written quote for the same specs.

Questions buyers ask
Is there a minimum order for custom lipstick boxes?
No. You can order a single box to test the fit or thousands for a launch. Most brands order one sample with the real tube inside before they commit to a full run.
What size should a lipstick box be?
It depends on your tube. Measure the outer diameter and the full height with the cap on, then add a small clearance on each side and a quarter inch of headroom. Send us the measurements and we confirm the size on the dieline.
Can I use the same box for different shades?
Yes. Keep one box size and change the color band, label or sticker for each shade. It saves on dielines and makes the range look consistent on the shelf.
What box style is best for a premium lipstick?
A rigid box with a magnetic lid or a sleeve over an inner tray feels more premium than a plain tuck-end carton. They cost more, so match the style to the retail price of the lipstick.
Who writes the ingredient and warning copy?
The brand does. We print the artwork you supply. Check the rules for your product and market before you finalize the file.
How do I get a quote and a dieline?
Send the tube dimensions and quantity through the quote form. We reply with a dieline and a price, and we beat any written quote for the same specifications.
